I was just about to post the same; guess we all get a bit bored of skyscrapers from time to time

It's already topped out. They just have to finish the crown top and the spire of the building.

I really like LA, but for a city this big it's downtown should really have something like double the number of skyscrapers

Los Angeles was structured around the automobile. LA has multiple hotspots. Downtown, Century City, Koreatown, Hollywood, Wilshire, Westwood, UCLA, etc... You have no idea how massive LA is.

The LA area is massive and most of it was built up when cars and suburban living was preferred.

Here is a good article discussing the history of skyscrapers in LA if you're interested.

Yeah. There's a hope among LA skyscraper enthusiasts that the central nodes of FiDi, South Park, Westlake, Koreatown, Hollywood will continue to grow and densify, eventually bridging the gaps into something like a unified skyline.

The nature of LA neighborhoods (huge blocks of single-family homes between urbanized thoroughfares) means that aside from a couple of commercial clusters, the skyline will always be strung out along the axes of major boulevards like Vermont, Wilshire and Hollywood... But if these areas do grow together, eventually DTLA will cease to be feel like an island and the impact of the skyline as a whole will multiply several-fold.

Those are pretty big gaps to fill...

Totally agree, such a beautiful tower, unfortunately LA in seismological activity, so supertalls 400+ meters in that area is not allow.

Saw the headline on CNN.com this morning and my first thought was "oh please, not Wilshire Grand..."

My condolences to his family...and his second day, too. Ouch.

This sounds a lot like it could be suicide. Second day on the job and on the 53rd floor (where he didn't belong).

They're saying he also wasn't wearing a safety harness or even a helmet, which sounds odd.

And sources say he wasn't working when he "fell" so unless he was just taking in the sights it sounds like suicide.
