why so shy ?
why do not build a 100 m bulding, stick on it a 300 m spire, and call it supertall ?

Yeah, I have to agree. It might be added to by the elevation difference, but this building looks considerably shorter than the Bank Tower. It definitely isn't looking like the tallest building in the city.

According to Google Earth, US Bank Tower is 96m above ground level while Wilshire Grand is 88m above ground level. These 8m can't really make a huge difference to the human eye. It must be something else..

Is because "sticks on top" only really make the building taller in statistics...

For the human eye, tallest roof (maybe tip of the crown) is more relevant...

On the right I made a version 8m taller (the difference in elevation) even that have some impact.

Agree. This building is essentially topped out now and it is by no measure the tallest building in the City. Only after the "pointed stick" is applied will it be "tallest".

I wouldn't complain with whats happening now, I mean the Ritz-Carlton and this are the only 200+ towers since 1992.
But yeah, a skyline filler boom like 1989-1992 would be great.

Instead of claiming the woods.. the rich actors and whatnot's in LA should claim the skies xD!
What better place to look down at everyone else..

I love that view. I've seen photos from there a few times. Where is it?

On another note, I think the crane gives a good indication of its final height, with the fulcrum above the crane operator's booth being close to the level of the top of the crown and the tip of the crane being the spire.

A photo my friend Scott took from 5th and Olive yesterday:

Also, I wish it had occurred to me to bring a camera when I did the Baldwin Hills steps the other day. The view from the Southwest is really interesting -- the WG and US Bank Tower are basically on top of one another from that angle. Hard to describe exactly, but looks like one crazy supertower. I'm sure when the crown and spire are built, it'll be a very distinctive view from Culver City.
