Oh, I have to think those white strips running up the spire are probably the LEDs, no? They certainly don't look sturdy enough to have any architectural function. And it would make sense, since it doesn't look like there's room on the segment connectors to fit floodlights of the kind JTCA described.

Then again, they don't run all the way to the base of the spire. Who knows? If that's what they are, then I guess the question is, will the LEDs light up the surface of the spire, or will they just be "light strips" running its length. Time will tell.

That was my thought as well when I saw them: light strips. Would be consistent with the render just before your post

Is it officially LA's tallest now?

Some great shots from Tower_guy's Instagram

https://www.instagram.com/tower_guy/

According to his Instagram, there are just two more sections left for the spire! Looking at the photos and the renders I guess that means one more white section and then the beacon. According to Tower_guy they'll be set Oct. 3rd. Seems like a big delay between the rest of the spire and then, but then they know what they're doing better than me!

Some more pictures from Tower Guy's instagram https://www.instagram.com/tower_guy/

In the last one you can see the spire is level with the Library Tower. The pictures are taken from the man basket, BTW, the view is amazing, but there is zero chance I would climb to that thing, suspended at 300 meters in a basket, no way!!!...

Let me just say something. That white spire is very visible in viewing DT from any direction, and it feels....weird, to see it now as part of the skyline. For us locals who are not used to seeing that. It gives the skyline a totally new personality which doesn't translate in pics.

I bet this wont be the last spire we see...competition. "Release the hounds!"

I agree. Drove in this a.m. on the westbound 10 from PS and the white spire certainly makes a statement whilst approaching DTLA.

Had the same thought yesterday. I was down at 28th and Hill, and most of downtown was wrapped up in this murky haze... But the spire cut through all that, definitely the most visible thing on the skyline.

The renders of this building always made it look awkward. But in reality it actually looks really cool.

One more section to go before being LA's new tallest? Also the beacon still has to be installed?

No need for that comment. I don't see the connection between numbering floors and building a modern, long-lasting tower.
