Taken yesterday afternoon from 7th Street/Metro Center station. The spire looks gargantuan from below.

...and the full-frontal version. I considered not posting, since I had to do a panorama to get the whole thing in frame and it distorted the image, but it gives a good idea of all the different areas being worked on at once.

Guys, as is stands now Wilshire Grand is technically the tallest tower in LA, and west of the Mississippi.

It's missing roughly 30 feet of spire but it's certainly over the 1,018 feet of the US Bank tower. It's not topped out entirely but it's surpassed the rest. Congrats on a new tallest LA

What is this building!? I can't find it in any other skyline photos or charts... What have I missed here ?

...

...Ritz-Carlton/Marriott Marquis...??

Ok found it: (obvious now)

The hotel/mixed use tower is quite new (2010) so maybe that's why it was a bit hard to find and that skyline shows it from a weird angle...

There also seems to be a new tower U/C at the front of the picture -> Oceanwide Plaza Tower I.

Good for L.A.

Taken yesterday from Westlake. I love it's silhouette at this angle with the spire. It looks like a completely different building here also.

The foreground actually features two separate construction projects totaling five new towers; the very front is Circa, Oceanwide Plaza is the lot just past it. The lot beyond that is the future site of the Luxe Hotel redevelopment, and several more towers are proposed for the small lot in front of Circa.

Yes, the L.A. skyline is expanding nicely.. horizontally and vertically.

I read a recent article somewhere that much LA large-scale development is being driven by Chinese investment and their construction companies.

L A is very attractive for investors but chinese construction companies are not involved(chinese developpers are);American leading architecture firms build all of the most striking buildings in China. We get their money while keeping our unparalleled savoir-faire.America is VERY smart my friend!

Damn. Look at how it just dominates the skyline. I didn't even expect that.

Only from that angle. From the Southeast and East it looks quite diminutive.

Well, this tower in particular is being funded in large part by Hanjin, a Korean shipping conglomerate (albeit one with a host of its own financial issues to deal with). I think, though, that this downtown boom is just a result of the area becoming more desirable to live in, and Angelenos realizing that having to drive everywhere sucks.

But then, I don't live there, so I can't say for sure.
