Pretty cool seeing a spire in the LA skyline. As far as new California tallests go I think I like Salesforce a bit more than this, but this is a great new tower. Better name too.

From reddit user /u/strik3r2k8 . I am starting to think they didn't foresee the spires "circles" blocking the lighting up to the top of the spire. They might have to fix this.

I think you may be right, although that would be a very silly oversight.

I have a feeling they're just testing one section. I think this will be lit like 1WTC's spire: lights on the "circle part" of each section shining up.

That spire is the equivalent of stiletto heels.

A relatively nice building, nonetheless. 7 out of 10.

I'm not so sure. You can see in Hunter's photo how the floodlights are mounted on a much larger ring at the base of the spire. I don't know that there will be enough room on the higher rings to actually mount anything (this isn't like the WTC where each ring juts out several feet, these joints are only a couple inches wide).

I agree:7
Also, what is the purpose of that pole?..I can't figure out!
It arms the overall design and the city fabric.
On a worldwide scale,we have among the best architecture firms in Callfornia but Gensler works mainly in China and the most beautiful skyscraper ever built stands in Shanghai, one of the most ugly city i have ever seen!
But... WHERE IS THE GREATNESS in Wilshire "Grand"!??..

100% agree. It's very clear that the floodlights are only designed to be installed at the base of the spire and not on the rings above. This is certainly a design oversight, which doesn't surprise me as it's difficult to work with light.

They will either extend the lights at the base further out from the spire to get above the rings or they will have to deal with a very $$$ fix to the rings by installing additional lighting.

Thanks for the update.

Somehow, I feel that there is something wrong with the spire. It's either misplaced or too slim for the tower!!!

Nevertheless, WGC is still looking great.

Once they take down the elevator and clad the other half of the structures Fig-facing side, as well as install the glass to the sail, it will look more even.

A pic I found....

https://tribwxin.files.wordpress.com...=all&strip=all

Construction workers on Saturday placed a 10-ton spire atop the Wilshire Grand Tower. The spire adds 160 feet to the 73-story building. That makes it 1,099 feet high.
That’s 81 feet higher than nearby U.S. Bank Tower, which had held the tallest building record since 1989.

Probably should have went without the spire, such a shame for a beautiful tower. Doesnt fit LA's theme.

The whole thing is not finished yet, maybe that's why you see the spire like you said.
