The section of pipe strapped on to the top looks a little goofy as it is. imo
People use helipads for more than just emergency access ... the helipad is the front door for the rich and famous to arrive at the hotel.

Isn't this not a helipad, but rather a platform for people to be lifted from in the event of a fire? There is no room to land on, just room for a helicopter to hover over and drop ladders.

From what I've read, it's a tactical approach pad used for emergency personnel to acess the roof. Indeed, they're dropped off without the helicopter actually landing.

I don't get those who say the spire should be shorter. When you compare it to the crown it seems big but compare it to the bulk of the building itself and it doesn't seem so big.

Wilshire Grand looks substantially taller than the US Bank Tower from the westside.

IMO this building fits in so well with the rest of the skyline. Love how it has turned out.

It does look great. I can't help it though when I look it at it still looks like the 2nd tallest building even though with the spire it is considered tallest. That does not take away from the fact that it is a handsome building.

Took a trip to the doctor's office this morning (basically got the best-case scenario for my broken nose, no surgery or re-setting required) and had a chance to snap a slightly unusual angle from Bixel between Wilshire and 7th. Sorry for the large photo, but I thought it was worthwhile to get a good detail of the crown...

WG from Bixel by Marshall Knight, on Flickr

It feels like the glass on the crown went up in the blink of an eye. I'd be surprised if it wasn't fully enclosed by Tuesday or Wednesday. The horizontal bands make a major different in the overall appearance; the "sail" feels like a completely distinct structure running through the middle of the tower from top to bottom.

Can't wait to see what they do in terms of lighting and signage up there. An LED Korean Air logo still seems the most likely, right?

The very same as living elsewhere. We have the good the bad and the ugly like the rest of the world. We have entire cities you wouldn't want to visit let alone live there. The worst mafia in the world is here, Washington and Wall street. Peaceeee.

Sorry for the off topic..... Let's go back to the main idea of this thread.

Totally OT, but how tall will those buildings on the right rise to? LA looks amazing in the pic. WG definitely uplifted the skyline and gave it a more modern look.
