Oh, yeah something like can easily be added indeed. This doesn't need some kind of installation (for real physical letters or something).

I must say I'm a bit underwhelmed by this tower... And I just moved to LA!

You must say it, or you just couldn't wait to say it?

Well, hope you like the rest of your stay in LA.

Underwhelmed is being polite. Compared with the other towers in downtown this is among the uglier ones. When you are on the sidewalk, directly across the street, at Figueroa and 7th, the older building with the Art Deco detail is so much more interesting. And then when you look up, the white tower at 777 Figueroa is literally a thousand times better, especially the quality of the cladding. It's incomparable.

The only reason people praise this building so much is because it is supposedly the "tallest" east of the Mississippi, but even that's a lie. That skinny "telephone antenna" is meaningless. Visually, the impact on the skyline is lower than several of the buildings around it, and that's what matters if you're talking about visual appeal. This building may be new, but it is outclassed by many of the older ones. In a few years no one will be talking about this building, but the US Bank tower, and a few of the others will continue to remain iconic.

You're being too hard on the tower. Something you forget is it's the first real skyscraper without a flat roof(aside from town hall). And that's a spire, not an antenna, it serves no use to the radio as it doesn't transmit or receive signals. Spires count, get over it. There's plenty of angles with the WG towering over the rest, not to mention the tower and plenty of it's iconic elements are left unfinished.

Quote:
Luminous by day, illuminated by night and branded with the logo of the building’s owner, Korean Airlines, the spire and the sail will be visible throughout the region and for visitors downtown, an invitation from the street to gaze skyward to some imaginary vanishing point.
We have yet to see the massive logo added or the sail fitted with the lights. If my memory doesn't deceive me the lights will change based on recent events such as a Lakers game or Christmas similar to the US bank tower, and i'm an LA native, the WG sticks out and is the immediate center of attention whenever I bring a guest or friends who've never been to downtown before. It's separates itself from the rest thanks to the spire and that causes everyone to notice it. It'll be the first of many in the decades to come. While you might be a bit underwhelmed by the scale you should wait to see the finished product. Plenty of glass panels need to be fitted and the glass will be cleaned. Turn on the lights and then you can judge the finished product.

My eyes can't seem to accept either building as the peak, although still favor Library Tower's substance over Wilshire Grand's stick. It's a clumsy competition. It would have looked better if the new building was taller, or if it was built somewhere else.

I'm glad to see another significantly tall tower for the Los Angeles skyline. Hopefully it's presence will spur more "life" at the ground level. Last time I was in downtown LA the place felt cold and dead.

just saw it on my little vacation in Los Angeles and i like it a lot less now, there is so many little things wrong with this building breaking symmetry.

I thought it was a really symmetrical building before.

one side is rounded, one side is flat, on the back there is a kinda set-back on one side but not the other. the facade changes towards the top. the spire is attached to the buildings back, not all the way down and neither inset into the building. so here is to hope, that the facade will be like a big LED screen with tons of colors, bringing the skyline into the present, which is really needed as most buildings are rather old and have no modern lighing schemes whatsoever in the city (similar problem that San Francisco has, but Salesforce is there to fix), which would redeem the building for me.
