Another week of rain for LA beginning tonight. The San Gabriels will be snowcapped for awhile still.

Definitely one of the most hideous design i have seen for years in beautiful Los Angeles..
Still looking for the other half of the thing,as it looks like it's been cutted in half, right in the middle..
Probably it's been built up in Seoul...

In fact, the design is a reference to the Half Dome at Yosemite and the majesty of California.

It's comments like this that make me regret it's a free country. Ignorance, bad taste and rudeness wrapped in one.

Whoa, I never knew that, but on a quick search, Martin has directly said as much: http://madworkshop.org/wilshire-grand/. As someone who would have preferred both sides be curved, knowing that the "Half Dome" was intentional rather than a product of value engineering or strictly business-motivated design.

That said, I do still think a curved North side would have been better (I mean when you're approaching from the South, just look at the epic reflections!) And with the Half Dome reference in mind, the spire (which I've generally defended here) becomes even more incongruous.

The flat north side fits in with that side of the building being closer to the street ...

I don't think this building is hideous at all. Far from it. I find it elegant and a fine classy addition to the LA skyline.

What I'm looking forward to is the lighting scheme. We were told the building would have unique lighting on the entire facade in a similar manner to Asian buildings. I can hardly wait.

very nice. I don't think I've ever seen DTLA look so tight and vertical.
