Here's the PDF Article submitted for the tower to the SF Planning comissions. Go to Page 173 and scroll down. It's classified as an "Open air metal screen". Actually, it's own PDF labels it's roof at 912' with the Mechanical Pent being the point of 970', so it's official roof could actually be shorter than Wilshire Grand's!

Uh Wilshire Grand's last ~80 feet is also a glass parapet, its official roof would be below 912' if we're going by your rules.

If you put the two together in the diagram Salesforce is obviously a taller building than both this and USBank. Many if not most notable world skyscrapers have parapets or mechanical penthouses.

Please, God, have someone build something in Seattle with a flat roof at 1,101', just to make all this crap stop.
I agree, sorry for even contributing. Not sure what all the fuss is about considering there are buildings which make both of these look tiny in the USA alone. They are great additions to their respective cities and there's no need to get worked up over trivial nonsense.

Doesn't matter what Seattle builds as the debate would shift to "tallest in California". It's unfortunate that San Francisco forumers have to troll the Wilshire Grand thread so much because they disagree with CTBUH's definition of building heights.

I completely agree. As someone who's commented on this I can't see why the commonly-accepted CTBUH standard of "architectural top" is such a problem for some people. It's the standard this very forum uses for heights. It seems to me that Wilshire Grand has become a cause celebre for some people since they find the spire so offensive to their sensibilities. Do we need trigger warnings for buildings now? Perhaps a safe space? Goodness.

I think the spire is a little silly and adds nothing to a very fine looking building. But to get your knickers in a twist about an outlier or two doesn't mean the standard per se is a bad one. It's certainly clear and simple compared with the other possible measures of height as the parapet versus roof silliness shows.

What I like about this building over Salesforce is that there are more things for use in this building than just an office tower. Plus, this has an observation deck and Salesforce doesn't. Ugh! But in terms of the exterior look, I like Salesforce just a little more.

This turned out to be an excellent tower. The antenna is a nice change from the flat roofs of LA and it serves as a nice skyline transitional point to the slightly taller US Bank Tower.
