Shows how DTLA is exploding with development. With several towers still yet to pass street level. One of the bigger projects is getting final approvals(3 new towers). DTLA will be incredibly dense by 2024.

Downtown's Inbound InterContinental Hotel Is a 73-Story Food and Drink Behemoth

Quote:

The lobby bar at the InterContinental, Downtown

The massive new InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown hotel complex should be wrapping up construction within a matter of months, making the pricey new property one of the most anticipated food and beverage options to hit the neighborhood in a while. Boasting an array of high-flying concepts — including a new 73rd floor open air bar — it’s easy to see the hotel becoming one of the area’s new dining crown jewels, complete with glittering views.

Now details are starting to drop about all the proposed projects on site, from the roof to the lobby. For starters there’s Spire 73 (previously called Sky Deck Bar & Lounge) that will literally become the tallest open-air bar anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. The space will offer a full bar, tall glass panes to protect you from the wind, and some of the best drinking views in the world.

Just below that there’s La Boucherie on 71 on the 71st floor, level with nearby 71Above. The upscale French steakhouse will be a moody spot for steaks, seafood, and evening rendezvous. A wine room will offer 1,200 bottles, and there will be lots of hidden nooks and private dining spaces for VIP types.

Two floors below that is Dekkadance, a clumsily-worded open marketplace for all kinds of food, from pastries to chocolate fountains to live fire meats and more. Previously called Stage, this space will be a free-for-all for diners looking to jump into a number of different cuisines simultaneously. On the same floor is Sora, a Japanese restaurant with a sushi bent and a conveyor belt. It’s reportedly more upscale than the moving food belt would presume, but should offer similar views and quality food.

And lastly there’s the Lobby Lounge on the 70th floor, which is the all-day stop for guests of the hotel to grab coffee, pastries, and a cocktail at night. You’ll also be able to get your basic burgers and salads from here before heading out for a day in Downtown.

Things are still tracking for a summer arrival at the InterContinental Downtown, though there is no official unveiling date just yet. Regardless, the property is aiming big with their handful of concepts so far from the ground, meaning its eventual arrival should shake up the Downtown dining scene once it arrives. If you can’t wait for the opening, you could always jump over to their other property in Century City, which recently underwent its own smaller refresh.
So it sounds like you could basically have every meal there. No word yet on which (if any) establishments will be exclusive to guests of the hotel, but I will be trying as many of them first-hand as possible when this baby opens.

I like seeing LA's skyline growing in height and growing out. Reminds me of SimCity

Looks like they are testing out the LED lights up and down the "spine" of the building!

From Facebook user Cesar Lopez by way of the DTLA Development Facebook group:

looks like there still "shaking out" the lighting, but looks impressive now and should look great by its opening date

and here is Cesar's video of the sail's LED strips being tested with the interior sail lighting (watch in 4k if you can ):

I had no idea that it would have that type of lighting on the spine or sail...very nice!

Wow! I had wondered whether they'd light the spine too since it's connected with the "sail". Looks great - just need the spire to be fully lit now.

The sail in front of the crown also lights up! This is more amazing than I realized! I hope they fix the lighting on the spire and then it'll truly be a beacon of light. I wouldn't be surprised if you could see this all the way from Long Beach.

So many granular lighting options now with those LEDs on the spine. I agree, if they fix that spire lighting this tower will look pretty fantastic at night.

City landmarks to light up like L.A. sunset in support of 2024 Olympics bid

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...508-story.html

By Tony Barboza•Contact Reporter

May 8, 2017, 11:00 PM

Some of Los Angeles’ most visible landmarks — including City Hall, the Getty, the Capitol Records building and the new Wilshire Grand skyscraper — will light up in the hues of a Southern California sunset this week in support of the bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The yellows, oranges, reds and purples that will illuminate Griffith Observatory, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the U.S. Bank Tower and other sites are timed for the visit this week by the International Olympic Committee delegation evaluating the bid by LA 2024, the private committee hoping to bring the Games to Los Angeles.

The new 73-story Wilshire Grand in downtown Los Angeles conducted a test lighting of the building’s spine Monday evening and will join a host of other landmarks being lit up at night Tuesday through Thursday.

Among the other buildings and landmarks to be lit are the Grand Park fountain, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Santa Monica Ferris wheel, Los Angeles International Airport and the Greek Theatre

Other than the fact that it has a spire and tapers a little, this building looks nothing like the TransAmerica Pyramid. Theyre both great buildings, but theyre very different from each other.
