I don't get all the negative comments moaning about the logos - I think its great and the LED lighting adds a dynamic to the DTLA skyline. As to the 'expert ' who thinks it only could only cost $400M, even my rough calcs suggest that would provide over 20% yield at 80% occupancy. Where can I build mine ??

Re: the spire... word on the street (i.e. from some Facebook postings) is that the spire will be fully lit for the grand opening of the Wilshire Grand on June 23 this Friday. It sounds like the idea is to light the spire to "announce the new tallest building in LA". However, I don't see any additional lighting on the spire and I'm not sure exactly how they are going to light the rest of it? Guess we will see on Friday!
Oooh I would so love to be pleasantly surprised. Don't know how they'd pull it off without testing. But here's to hoping.

I do think the lighting options look cool. Very dynamic. I think LA can pull off buildings with these lighting schemes. Not sure it would fit into NYC (and that's a good thing).

for sure I agree, I don't know if the lighting on this building would fit in New York but it works well in the LA skyline. This building does a nice job of enhancing the LA skyline and making it feel like LA

...and well, I guess a little bit of Seoul is in there too

edit: and just saw, thank you very much Chuckscraper for all of the nice comments!

The WILSHIRE GRAND TOWER is now 100% completed. I love you so much Wilshire Grand Tower. You're the best looking skyscraper in the entire Los Angeles Metropolitan Area.

I will visit the Wilshire Grand Tower in person on July 1, 2017 with my best friend after my great exciting time at Anime Expo.

My #1 favorite building in DTLA!!!

No sorry, Oceanwide isn't visible there (too close to the Staples Center). That one in view is "Metropolis"!

ETA: IOW, just to be snarky about things... no, the one in view isn't that Chinese mega-development in DTLA, it's actually the OTHER Chinese mega-development in DTLA

Went downtown for dinner last night and realized it was opening night for the Wilshire Grand. Managed to snap a couple shots, including this video of the white "pulses" that were on display, pretty much all night as far as I could tell.

(click through for video)

They still haven't managed to light the entire spire unfortunately, but the crown and spines both look great. Lot of folks seem to think the KAL logo is a Pepsi ad though.

Hotel guests were being admitted, but the rooftop bar and upstairs restaurants were not open to the public (there was a private grand opening party, hopefully someone here was able to attend!)

In any case, I was incredibly impressed with the little plaza out in front of the lobby, something I hadn't given much thought to. There's a lighted water feature, an LED display with live-updating Metro times for 7th Street Station, and of course the dramatic glass roof, which I didn't realize before was meant to evoke a specific waterfall/river in Yosemite to go along with the Half Dome shape up top.

Can't believe I failed to get the reverse of this shot below, but I'm sure plenty of people will be uploading better photos than mine in the coming days.

And of course, it's hard to state how impressive and dramatic this thing feels when standing directly at the base.

Had the opportunity to see the opening of the Wilshire Grand Center, officially the tallest skyscraper in Los Angeles and the West Coast.

Anyone know how to upload a video from an iPhone 7 using the app?

I love the interior also, I was curious as to what the "feel" inside would be.

In a CBS piece, the architect said that he designed the building based on Korean Airlines chairman's love of Yosemite. The sail is based on Half Dome, and the glass and the curves at the base are the Merced River.

Here's a vis of what the spine can do.

interesting as the technology is, the modern trend to permanent light installations leaves me cold. For me, a building is not a canvas upon which you paint something; the building itself is the thing, and at night it only needs light from windows to make its presence known.

I appreciate that some structures like the ESB light their crowns in holiday/celebration colors, but this seems altogether different than turning the building into a throbbing light show.
