I completely agree with you. nice to see something new rising in the city but it isn't anything special.

Why write it off so easily? This IS special for L.A. This city hasn't had any significant tall buildings for a long time and the design looks far better than most of the current boring boxy towers.

Not counting the 3 year old Ritz-Carlton right?

The Ritz is the tallest completed west of the Rockies in the last boom cycle, hardly worth scoffing at (Fountainbleu in Vegas never completed and nothing else in any city in the West since the late 90's tops this)

That's true, though when you compare it to NYC nor the design, nor the height are anything special. It is great news for LA but in order for this to be a true progress it would have to be at least taller than Library Tower.

Being the second tallest building isn't progress?

Not really in my opinion. If they build a building a quarter of a century later than the current tallest it definitely should be taller.

Don't bother, he only cares about roof height.

However, I think it's progress.. L.A needs good design and density more than some pissing contest about height anywayIMO. This tower is a superior design to most scrapes in the skyline.

This.

Anyway, here are a couple pics taken today of the deconstruction.

I personally like dick-measuring contests between developers myself, especially since height does not preclude good design.

I think all the 200m+ towers in LA are great and far from boring and this will be a fantastic addition and it fills the height gap between the Bank tower and Aon.

those pics are great, but the real action is on the other side. Lots of deconstruction has happened and a crane it being added on the wilshiie side to really get it going.

A crane? This is news to me. Where on the Wilshire side?

After that 2nd pic, I left for the 7th street station. I didn't see the Wilshire side but I do remember an article saying that two cranes are supposed to go up.

The Francisco Street side looks even better (worse?) than Wilshire.

By you're logic New York hasn't made any progress in over 40 years. Our tallest building is over 80 years old, and the only building taller than it hasn't open yet.

I happen to like the height and design of this building.

Would be awesome if it would just not make any progress. In fact, thanks to 9/11 it moved backwards. 1WTC helps but it won't be until 432 Partk toppes out that NYC will not only regain what it had, but will also move slightly to the future. 225 West will be what will truly push NYC on the next level. So, yeah, NYC hasn't made any progress the last 40 years and has yet to regain its glory after 9/11.
