Kanto has skyscraper-vision. It's like tunnel vision except he's always looking up instead of straight ahead.

I'm always looking for taller and taller myself, especially since height does not preclude good design. I guess I just have a thing against the Either-Or Fallacy.

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest in Dubai but most towers after it have formed the skyline of Dubai.

NY hasn't made any progress after 40 years? Is this a joke? If not, you are really have a distorted sense of what constitutes progress. I think I won't be listening to your opinions any more if this is your line of thinking.

Is flaming necessary? I would hardly call buildings in the 200m-250m range progress. Definitely not when there are so many so much taller buildings arround

NYC has built hundreds of buildings in the past 40 years, hundreds!

I'm Hoping this could be the start of LA, building half as many buildings.

I think it's pretty obvious to almost everyone here that height does not equal progress.

By Kanto's definition, Dubai is the most "progressive," city in the world with it's striking (and very tall) skyline. Nevermind the fact that human rights in Dubai (and the UAE in general) are still stuck in the medieval age.

Well, I'd just say that most of the buildings in Dubai look like shit.

With progress I didn't mean general progress, I meant progress in skyscraper construction.

LOL more like the stone age, along with every other place surrounding it. Indeed, cities in China make Dubai look like Bedrock. China's human rights record is far better, meaning medieval.

^ Most likely. I walked by the Wilshire Grand yesterday and the earth movers were busy eating away. I'm guessing by late May or early June they'll be finished with demolition. Then right afterwards, construction will start on the Wilshire Grand.

The old structure is being demolished...

Long way to go before vertical construction on the new tower begins.

I seem to remember reading that vertical construction would begin before year's end.

Question: aren't they supposed to announce the hotel operator this month ?

I think the Downtown News said the entire deconstruction process would be completed by October of this year. That includes deconstruction plus digging out of the foundation for the new building.

Gotcha, and that's not long to wait at all!
