Needless to say I don't think LA is going to look like Blade Runner in 6 years.

It'll be the tallest west of Chicago

This picture perfectly sums up how it'll look. The crown will hit a top height of 1,000 feet. The Bank Tower stands at 1,018 feet, although it stands on a hill roughly 20-50 feet higher than the current Wilshire Grand site. You can't really tell from the photo because the Bank tower is slightly farther back, but the spire will be the topping of the cake and raise the total height to 1,100 feet

I don't think the core will have such a shape because the dark gray part reaches 'til the perimeter columns in width, but is very far from the perimeter columns in length. I think the shape of the core will be more similar to the shape of the tower itself, although I might be wrong

I was just talking to somebody about the "Digital Light Zone" downtown. Is that still part of this plan, and the plan for the neighborhood?

Oh the irony. Looks like I spoke too soon.

Haha, yeah, although that's an old article. There was a lot of talk about the light zone when this project was getting off the ground, but I have I haven't heard anything about it for probably a year or more. I wonder if it's just been quietly scrapped.

I actually think it would be cool for that section of downtown (western edge along the 110 and Fig, down to LA Live) to be lit up and animated as was proposed, since it's not in conflict with the historic character of the middle and eastern parts of DTLA. LA would be on the top of my list of American cities that might explore the color-and-lightshow aesthetic you see in places like Shanghai and HK.

If I remember correctly, it was scaled back a little from its blazing original plans. I can't remember.

I blew up this detail from Mojeda101's high res photo on flickr.

Looks like several tons of rebar already in place in that central area.

Is the earthen ramp going to be removed or paved over?

Will this project include a separate smaller tower? And will the main tower be an all hotel tower?

It's just one mixed hotel/office tower.

Original plans called for a two tower complex but that's kinda old news.

The design evolved for good from the early proposals.

Congrats to Los Angeles.

Yes, at some point before/after the structure of tower is at about street level, or as we say in the trade, ''coming out of the ground'' there is alot of parking levels below grade, to me, this phase of the construction of a highrise is not only the most important, but also the most interesting, for as they say ''a building is only as good as it's foundation'' and every city has different types of systems used to keep them in place. interesting to watch these operations, as well as the first few tier's of steel, it shows you how the load is distributed, everything below street level is considered to be the building foundation.
