The Facebook page finally posted a new pic. But given this page's history, it's probably several days old.

Exciting developments in the construction of the Wilshire Grand Project : The Tallest Building West of the Mississippi

The Box Columns or Starter Columns as they are also referred to, are en route to the job site from Schuff Steel in San Diego. They will begin to place each column in the footprint of the foundation starting this Monday December 2nd, 2013. Each of the Box Columns weigh 42,000 lbs; they are approximately 18 feet long/high and weigh an average of 2,333 lbs. per square foot. Very cool!

I'm so glad a supertall is going up in California, even if it has a small spire. It seems like all the militant environmentalists and crazy class warfare people in CA shout down all the proposals for any decent-sized project, so it is good to see a new structure going up in spite of all that.

Very nice design and an attractive building.

Much like its evil twin in New York it absolutely defines cheating to gain extra height for supertall designation.

I like the fact U.S cities are in the supertall section too. This tower fits L.A. and will enhance the skyline decently. Canīt wait for it to be done. :-)

It "cheats" the same way MANY supertall designs do nowadays.

I believe he's referring to Bank of America. Many others have made the comparison, but I frankly don't see more than a passing resemblance.

The spire thing is frustrating though. It does feel like a cheat, especially when it's supposed to surpass US Bank. While it technically does, US Bank still LOOKS taller.

True, but still the US Bank Tower is the tallest since 1989, so it's not that they both raced for the title and this one added a spire to win. And in my opinion a spire is really good for downtowns flat skyline.

I guess adding any type of architectural elements to the top of buildings nowadays is blasphemy because it "cheats" according to height enthusiasts.

looks to me like those columns will support a grid of plate girders and grillage.
