That render obviously doesn't show the spire (I assume so it doesn't distract the viewer from Metropolis), but I have a feeling that's how it's going to feel most of the time anyway, since the spire is so thin.
that render is not intended to show exact scaling for WGT, it even shows the old wilshire grand under the WGT tower. IMO its not accurate.

Also, US Bank is on a hill about 50 - 100 feet higher in elevation than Wilshire Grand

And the view is from a helicopter, so that skews the perspective.

I haven't been able to track down where that rendering originated, the URL indicates facebook, and there's part of a Gensler logo in the bottom left, but Gensler should be able to do a better rendering than that, the lights are on in the Metropolis buildings' windows, but it's a daytime view. Weird.

I'm good with it as long as it is a supertall to the top of the enclosed crown.

I've built two scale models of the downtown area and the difference in elevation is not quite that much, i can't remember the exact difference, but the 5th st. main enterance to the US Bank tower is in the same location that hope st. would be if the library was not there, hope st. to where it now terminates mid block, (between 5th & 6th st.) and that point mid block on 5th st. is around 10 to 15 feet higher, looking S/W down hope st. from this location, it looks flat and level, (although it does grade upward, but only very slightly) to the library, now moving to the intersection of 7th and hope, one can actually see 7th st. begin it's upward slope, more drastically between flower and figueroa st. so between hope and figueroa, I would put this elevation difference at around 20 feet, this intersection being the lowest point of the Wilshire Grand site, so i would place the elevation difference between the two towers at no more than 40 feet.

However, my computer is old, (upgrading soon) and will not load google earth, perhaps someone could do the footwork, and using it's toolbar it tells the elevation of the mouse/pointer above ground level, I used this to determine elevations many times, and would be interested in knowing this myself, i tried to find this answer last week, this is how i found out i could not load earth

I agree that it's lame. They should have planned a taller building than US Bank.

Well, considering this whole site is about skyscrapers, I would think that just about everyone here would be.

Okay, I'll turn my frown upside down but you still have to admit that when you think LA is going to get a 1100-1250 foot building and then find out it's a 900 foot building with a (very skinny) pole it's a little disappointing, not gonna lie.

Can't wait to see this supertall give a jolt in LA's skyline.

I couldn't pass up the longest concrete pour on record and being part of L.A. history, so I went there this afternoon and took pics for you guys (okay, definitely for me too... ). Sorry if they're not the best shots but it was overcast and the WedBush area was restricted to VIP/Media. Nevertheless, here are the shots I got for us folks here...

Enjoy!...

Also doesn't that plaza cover the spot where the pantry now sits? They better not harm that building.

I've never seen such an event for a slab pour! Marching band, parade of trucks and workers, cheering audience....

This is so weirdly American, I must say...

Ah, well...
The most important thing is that conctrete is being poured.

Well the Americans do love parades.....

I think this sets new standards. There should be at least one marching brass band present for future supertall concrete pourings
