I grew up in West LA, and in addition to the above, The Library Tower, Capitol Records Building, The Coliseum, Griffith Observatory, on and on.

I'll be visiting LA from June 13th to the 17th and hope to get some pics.

From my tourist perspective, here's the main landmarks I want to see in LA:
Beverly Hills Sign/Rodeo Drive Sign
Coliseum of Olympic Fame
Getty Center
Grauman's Chinese Theatre
Griffith Park Observatory
Hollywood Sign
Library Tower
Santa Monica Beach and Pier (with the Palm Trees) *daydreams*
Star Walk of Fame
Universal Studios Entrance
Walt Disney Concert Hall

Since you'll already be at the Disney Concert Hall, I'd add in the Broad Museum across the street.

The Disney Concert Hall is an eyesore that needs to be torn down. Everything Gehry built needs to be demolished.

Woah, had no idea about this beauty. I planned a 5 mile walk through Downtown for my first day so I'll be seeing a lot more than just those landmarks I listed (I actually won't be visiting the Getty Center and probably not Universal Studios Entrance either due to transportation logistics). In Downtown around Walt Disney I was going to do: Museum of Contemporary Art (won't enter) -> Walt Disney Concert Hall -> Music Center -> Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

Here was my route: http://goo.gl/KIZx3g

I have mixed feelings about this tower. Don't get me wrong, it does look great. But to me downtown LA is like an icon, with the US bank tower in the middle. A part of me wouldn't trade that icon for any bigger or more impressive skyline.

It will be shocking to see this picture changed for the first time since 1989.

Walking around Walt Disney Concert Hall

Manitopiaaa:

When you're at Disney, be sure and take the "Aerial Pathway". The entrance steps are right beside the exterior elevators (outside and to the left of the main entrance along Grand Ave.) It is free and you climb five levels around the Hall for some incredible views of the city, Hollywood Hills and the downtown skyline. At the end, the steps descend down into the Garden on the third level, and you'll have more views and interesting perspectives of the walls of the Hall. They also have free tours of the Hall itself (although you can't go inside the auditorium), check out their website for times.
Have a good trip.

The Broad museum is still very much under construction.

I believe it opens next year.

Ground level! That's good to hear. Where does everyone think that this will be by the end of the year? My guess would be 5-10 flrs above ground.

I thought the original plan was the podium would be topped out by years end which is roughly 6 floors so you're not far off.
