Already making it's mark on the skyline. It will be very visible from this angle when completed.

Taken yesterday 2014; this photo was taken last year! That was a lame joke but steel is now above ground level on the Wilshire side.

Wow, are there really that many projects taking shape downtown?

I love how far this tower has gone! I get my license in a few months, by then I wouldn't mind driving to downtown to get awesome pic of this building.

Is the west side the flat side or the curved side?

Damn, I'd never seen all those projects depicted together like that. Big big changes in store, and that skyline's starting to match the stature of the city!

I don't normally post here, just on the LA threads, but yes there are.

In case you are interested, the biggest ones are Metropolis and Fig Central, each with 3 buildings under construction, all over 40 and Onni, two at about 50 and 30 last I heard.

And if you have acrophobia, there are another twenty 7-10 story projects in downtown as well.

Psst. This is an LA thread.

But thanks for the info. I had no idea there were more projects in LA than just WG, honestly.

Technically this is a "World Development News" thread. LA specific threads all live here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=427

Some cities use their individual subforums more than others. I don't think the NY one is very active at all.

Visible from the 10

Driving to Pomona last night, and I was able to see the WG core beginning to peek out. At just the right angle when traveling on 10 eastbound, I was able to see most of the core, but for only a quick glimpse or two since I was driving in Friday rush hour traffic.

Before long, this will be sticking out like a sore thumb, even from the 10

Are they going to light this thing up nicely when its completed and open?

Yes, the tower will be lit up from the base to the spire. The "spine" of the tower, where the staircase is located, will have bright lights that'll lead to the crown, the "iconic sail-shaped architectural feature that will be illuminated with LED lighting at night”. They are entitled to project LED lights on the tower, thus the Korean Air logo on the crown is conceptual.

The spire will be lit up as an art installation in which will change colors and so it will be quite noticeable. I am going to assume it will complement whatever color is on US Bank Tower's crown.

How high up will the top accessible level be? It looks like the top floor may be a little above the top floor of the Aon Tower.. I am assuming it should be pretty close to the top shoulders on the US Bank Tower.

No question, the top floor in the US Bank Tower is definitely higher. I just wish that building had a restaurant/obs deck/bar, at the very top floor in the crown, where the windows basically have no borders. That level has a lot of floor space, and its such a waste to not use it for that purpose, it has to be a good 970 feet or so above ground. I know there are a few mechanical levels in that region of the building (there is one above this top crown floor I mentioned), but I heard that the top inhabited floor in the US Bank Tower is on 68 or 69 anyway. There is plenty of room up there for them to do this since there easily has to be 2-3 floors actually inside the crown. Even if the office floors, went up to 70 or 71. The US Bank tower has had different floor counts in the past, 72, 73, 75 depending on who you asked. I believe its 75 with all the mechanical floors, but the lobby sign for the elevators show the highest floor currently at 72 right now - I always have wondered about the official numbers on that monster too. That building is not open to the public, and they will throw you out of there if you have no business being there.

At least the WG will have a top floor that anybody could visit, and grab a drink and dinner, although I am sure its not going to be cheap. I am assuming the top levels above 70 are in the sail, and are mechanical levels.

It will be fun to finally have a real spot to visit like this, and spend the evening taking in the views. I think the next highest restaurant currently, is in the Bonaventure, at 31 or 32 stories, and basically a third of the height so this will be a hell of a huge difference. Also, all the hotel rooms will be very high up since the office floors are on the bottom.. I wonder what the hotel room rates are going to end up looking like.

In this picture, you traced another tower to the right in downtown somewhat near Aon Tower. What is going to be built there? If its anything close to the scale that you traced, then its got to be a good 60 stories or so. In this pic, if these structures to the right side are built, then it will really close some big gaps in the skyline; at least from this angle.
