Any information what caused the fire and the damages after it? Doesn't look harmless... High temperatures are usually critically disruptive for metal constructions and metal looses it's strength... So it may be a major setback?

Preliminary survey reportedly shows that that the damage is significant, but not critical. Fire damaged the outer concrete layer, but that very same layer (concrete has a low thermal conductivity) largely protected the ironwork, so the core of the approach span remained mostly undamaged. Fire also was successfully kept off the already installed stays. So now the calcined outer layer must be broken off and reapplied — which is a tedious and time consuming work, but it could be done simultaneously with all other steps, so the deadline won't be affected much.
