Block Party - Sunday at Noon!

World Cup Finals
The FIFA World Cup Finals will have more drama and excitement than ever as perennial soccer powerhouses, Spain and the Netherlands, will have the opportunity to win their first EVER World Cup!

Netherlands VS Spain

And the best place in Downtown Miami to watch it all will be at the official block party to take place in the Brickell area, centered at 1421 South Miami Avenue on July 11th starting at 12pm, with the game scheduled for 2:30pm. Make sure you tell all your South Florida friends to come and join the celebration to support our city's bid to host the World Cup in 2018.

Nice post!
Downtown is more active than any other year since I've lived here (18 yrs). Even in a summer recession, Downtown is loaded with events and happenings nearly every weekend.

re: Flugtag. The event is coming here to Philly the first week of September and was curious how you guys that attended liked it. Worth it? A lot of fun?

Just asking because I have tentative other plans but if it's really cool I'd stay in town to check it out.

RED BULL RACES: Red Bull air races may soon hit Miami-Dade. Commission Chair-elect Joe Martinez has reached out to the energy drink providers to see if they would be interested in bringing the international event to the area, possibly as part of the international aerospace show planned to kick off in November 2012. The Red Bull races feature competitors who speed through challenging obstacle courses in an effort to receive the fastest time. "In times like this… you need to increase the revenue we're getting from outside sources," Mr. Martinez said. "Even if it creates 30 jobs for two weeks, it's 30 jobs for two weeks."

Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012

The World's Toughest Ocean Race
Is making one stop in North America as the travel 37,000 nautical miles.

The most technologically advaced boats are on their way from Itajai, Brazil and are expected to arrive at Bicentennial Park on May 6th.
The Race Village is free and open to the public

Imagine these racers coming into port on a night of a Heat playoff game...it is going to be electric downtown for the next couple of weeks.

Doesn't seem like those would fit under the causeway by much.

We should make replace the bridge with a tunnel from Bicentienal to Watson Island and open up the bay for bigger boats.
It's pretty lame that super yachts can cruise around Ft. Lauderdale without a problem but in Miami they're confined to Miami Beach Marina and Bayside.

Imagine the luxury houses of Star, Palm and Hibiscus Islands preped with super yachts and having big sailing events in the bay!

No they won't be going under any bridges.

Mark your calendars for May 19th at 1pm, that is the Port Miami In-Port Race. While the Volvo Ocean Racers get the majority of their points for being the first to arrive at the next port, each host port hosts an In-Port race, which are short races around markers. This is great for spectators...especially from the water.

It looks like the yachts are going to arrive from Itajai at about noon on Wednesday. The leader is going to be followed in by dozens and dozens of fans from the water, it will be very interesting thing to see if you live downtown or are in your office.

The Volvo Ocean Race yachts arrive today...Mar Mostro leading them in.

Puma Ocean Racing is leading the Itajai to Miami Leg of the 9-Month long race and expects to lead the fleet in the only North American stop today at about 1pm. You should see the yachts off the coast of South Beach and then they make their way through Government Cut to the Racing Village at Bicentennial Park.
The boats will be hoisted out of the water and onto racks for repairs.

The Racing Village has 3-D Movies, a Sailing Simulator Ride, free concerts, lunch service, paddle boarding, learn to sail classes, special Mother's Day events, and lunch served daily. This is a great event for Miami. Go Mar Mostro!

As they round the final mark, Puma Ocean Racing has a 12.5NM lead over Camper coming into Miami, but the possibility of thunderstorms could allow an opportunity for Camper to catch them.
