They've had a splendid refurb since you were probably last there Awayo. Don't think the birds are still there though, which is a shame, as there are few things freakier than talking minah birds encountered while out on your sunday stroll. When they squawk "Hello there!" as you walk past, it's impossible to believe that they're just making noises and aren't actually conversing with you.

Cheers Damon. Sounds good. Endcliffe Park and Whiteley Woods were very nice as well. It's a great walk, starting at Hunters Bar at the statue to Victoria "a Great Oven" and though that line of parks that follow the Porter Brook out of the city, stopping at the old waterwheel grinding-type place and ending up at that classic old skool park cafe a couple of miles out (if it's still) there. And then back. Pint at the Banner Cross returning.

freaky indeed. once met a minah bird that would yell a high pitched womanly scream and then calmly say ''hello my name's scargill''. A satirists wet dream perhaps...

Victoria park in Bath is my favourite park

Weston Park was recently renovated to it's Victorian glory. (They're now even holding weekly concerts in the band stand).

Devonshire Green was also redeveloped recently.

Also, i've recently been going to Roundhay Park in Leeds. What a park that is... it's freakishly 'perfect'! Anyone fancy putting some pics of it up?

You live in Leeds and have never been to Roundhay?

You could spend a day there with all its attractions, let alone its size.

It looks very landscaped (not in a bad way), the grass is all exactly the same length, nice and green and bouncy, the trees all look like thought has gone into where they're placed, the hills are nice and rolling, the lake was nice and clean and clear, there's barely any rubbish and of course they've got the cricket pitch and clubhouse there along with the stately home.

I know it all sounds a bit odd, but all in all it's a very nice park. Very big with lots of space to relax in.

Which lake did you go to?

There's also the folly/castle, and the wooded areas as well as the themed gardens. A vast park.

The lake in your first lake picture (with the restaurant) I didn't realise there was another lake!

We usually sit up on the hill looking over the cricket pitch.

Ah yes- Hill 60. Originally there was going to be a third lake where the cricket pitch is now, but it is now used as the arena.

The second (Upper Lake), is a bit further along from the Mansion, towards the Castle. There are White Clawed Crayfish living in and around the Upper Lake too.

This site has a map with virtual tours of Roundhay Park: http://www.***************/roundhay-...-park-map.html

Link doesn't work, but if you google VR Roundhay Park you will find it.

Nice pics Dai

I encourage everyone to make a special effort to photograph the parks, gardens and other urban spaces in your city this year. I thought this was an excellent thread, but it died pretty quickly.

There is an interesting one in Hulme, the name of which I can't remember right now, that I would like to see on here.

Hulme in Manchester? That only has Hulme Park which isn't that special. I second your suggestion, it would be nice to see a bit more of our cities' green spaces.

No, I don't think it was that, Hulme park is pretty big isn't it? The one I meant is a small pocket park, surrounded by good buildings, one of them being an old grand church that is now some community centre. It was only being started when I saw it last, but you could see the 'bones' of a really interesting urban space.

Hulme parks a bit of an odd shape, and has a very small section cut off from the rest fronting onto Stretford Road opposite the Zion Centre, however the buildings around it are mostly a bit crap looking 90s three storey houses.

CABE have some pictures and a description.

Prolly coz it's difficult to find photos of trees and grass distinguishable from one city to another

with pics of central park you can get grass, and trees, and big giant buildings. If you see teh pictures of Chevasse park in downtown Liverpool you will see it surrounded by tall apartments and strange, low level retail 'opportunities'. You do not just have to take pictures of grass and trees!
