The signage down to the Metrolink will be greatly improved in the next month or so when Piccadilly gets it's makeover for the Olympics. Watch this space!

Really? Is this confirmed? Improvements other than just the new departure platform?

Yup. Station will get a bit of a vamp for th'olympics. All the new retailers should be knocking about by then.

They haven't come over yet. Plan is the first four 11 cars come over. First two have been shortened and used to test the inserting the new coaches into the other units. Once they start running 11 cars then they will add the extra coaches (I think, not sure when the overhauls are due).

Yeah the rails are the same gauge in Europe but everything else is different. Why we get more expensive trains.

390054 and 055 are in service, they both arrived at Edge Hill......390056 arrived last Mocday and went straight to Longsight.........the to coaches that have been taken out of 390054 have no gone into 390012 for testing.

Good to hear all the new retailers/restaurants will be open by the time of the Olympics, it has taken them sometime to refurbish the mezzanine level. I imagine the Olympics rings will either be hung up at Piccadilly or the Town Hall?

Massive refurb for the Common wealth games in 2002.

Refurbed for the Olympics in 2012.

Need something for 2022 as in 2032 it will re-open as a HS2 station.

Not seen the plans for that yet. But there's a good few restaurants/bars to open soon. Carlucio's on the Upper Con South side, a bar opposite it & an Ed's Diner next to M&S.

A bit of discussion has gone on in the Pub, Club and Restaurant thread about the mezzanine refurb, Carluccios has been known for a while, and the bar also, also Ed's has been known but apparently they pulled, it sounds like they may have not now though. I posted a update from Piccadilly yesterday about the refurb on the thread.

Back on topic, I've just noticed that the Metrolink site's Oldham and Rochdale page is now carrying some nice pictures of Oldham bound bananas (links right at the bottom of the page). The sentence about "testing over the coming months" doesn't give much cause for optimism about opening any time soon though!
