MILAN | Museum of Contemporary Art MAC (Libeskind) | U/C

Status: Approved
Name: Museo d'Arte Contemporanea MAC
Architect: Daniel Libeskind
Year: 2011
Use: Museum
Location: CityLife

For the new museum in Milan Libeskind was inspired by the tradition of Italian Renaissance and Leonardo da Vinci, conceiving a structure that blends together the forms of the circle and square (a square at the base which becomes a circle at the top and going "slips" by hand, creating tiered facade jutting or inclined), which is home to its top a botanical garden and houses a large underground spa. "This museum is designed only for the city of Milan, the best city for architecture," said Libeskind during the same presentation in the Triennale. In fact, the museum will be covered with the same marble, to Candoglia, which is built the Dome.

The cost is estimated at around 40 million. With its 18 thousand square meters on five floors and a modern concept that makes live art and performance, exhibition and workshops, the new contemporary art museum in Milan is a candidate to become a new model for arts center on the international scene, next to the Guggenheim in New York and Bilbao and the Beaubourg in Paris.

WOW. I thought Libeskind was all washed up and out of ideas... I AM WRONG. This is amazing, cannot wait till it is finished. I will surely visit.

Best in the world if you ask me.

Max, you say this is under construction are you sure it has started???

Liebskin may take this design away as we have cancelled his "Il Curvo" tower.

So Curvo is still planned? I thought Libeskind was so offended by what Berlusconi said about the shape of his building that it was cancelled. So why is it shown as a different colour in Skymino's Diagramma Italiano?

because actually it's on hold, although we all think it's going to be built at last

This project proves that Libeskind is washed up and has no good ideas. Another big sculptural object in a city with no connection to the urbanism of the city. this thing could be plopped down anywhere in the world.

I liked it at first too , but over time it really seems to be nothing special. A building in a park that will likely not age well. The concept is interesting, just do not see it integrating well.

The ideia behind the shape os this musem in great and the guys of the Rennaissance would probably be astonished to see this if they were alive today.
My only doubt is if people who know nothing about art will realize Libeskind's concept, since you only see the circle when you see it from above.
Besides that, the building seems too hermetic as it was mentioned before.
