To be honest I'm not really familiar with the malls of Abu Dhabi, but at the moment this mall is in a location where its only going to be busy several times a year - when there's race's on. Also there's probably going to be no residential units around Yas Island for another 2/3 years, maybe more. So is there really any point of constructing a mall of this size now just to leave empty when its finished?

I know this was from years ago but with al reef community and al falah community 5 minutes away , those alone provide tens of thousands of people who want to spend a quite weekend at a nearby mall instead of having to go through all the traffic of down town !

not to mention the 500 villas directly opposite this mall handed over as local housing (yas villas phase 1)

Have you been to Khalifa A lately? Its getting so busy. Plus, When mall of the Emirates was built there were nothing around it, and now it is in the center of new Dubai.

Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi is one of the largest projects aiming for a Pearl Two Rating under Estidama, which requires it to divert at least 70% of the waste it produces from the landfill. Meeting this requirement has required innovation from the design and operation team, including crushing and screening more than 39,000 tonnes of concrete on site.

The Yas Mall construction site on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is the first commercial project of its size to strive for a Two Pearl rating within the Estidama system.

A 7,500m2, 14-screen cinema unit and and a 6,000m2 family entertainment centre being developed as part of Yas Mall are set to be handed over to tenants for fit-out next month as work on the massive shopping complex progresses.
