SINGAPORE. The Lion City (part 3 of 3)

Last part of my tour to Singapore...

1.
Views from the Singapore Flyer, currently world's largest observation wheel at 150m in diameter and overall height of 165m

2.
Ships seen from the wheel. Port of Singapore is world's busiest by some parameters

This is what's happening on the ground... a sick-massive construction site which in a couple of years will transform the existing skyline of Singapore. And it seems to be one of the "no bullshit" cases when the whole massive project goes ahead and actually gets completed in a matter of few years and on time... Keep in mind that everything in Singapore is made to work well and, not least, look aesthetical. Those responsible for urban planning in Singapore are probably very strict and accurate in what they are doing. The city is planned like a jewel with everything taken into account (from transport volumes and streets to simply how nicely it looks) and a project of this scale requires top-notch competence and understanding as well as good intention to actually make the city look better and more pleasant than the opposite (as it still happens with many big project around the world). I'm quite confident that this is precisely what is going to happen with this one. Perhaps even a good enough reason to come back after a couple of years to see it completed

Despite the diving GDP (Singapore's GDP is forecasted to shrink 6-9% this year) constructions are going on without an interruption. Perhaps not least because everything has already been taken into account and no surprises occured even during the worst recession in the young nation's history

Lau Pa Sat - a great place to have a bite of some delicious food of various Asian cuisines. Essentially it's a large food-court in an old building from Victorian days. The most interesting thing is that it actually is in the middle of the CBD surrounded by skyscrapers. Perhaps the best location to have a meal for those who love skyscrapers

62.
According to Skytrax surveys Changi Airport got 2nd position in the Global Airports Award (Hong Kong took the gold). And indeed it is one of the best airports I have stepped into. Extremely cosy, pleasant and convenient

63.
Some construction works going on in the airport too. Only thing I can't figure out is how they are managing to work in the sun in this weather... to me it was unbearable to even stand in the sun for a few minutes not to mention hard work all day long

64.
A little bamboo garden with some background and history of bamboo trees. Why? I have no idea. But since I had nothing better to do I actually read it all and now know more about bamboos than I did before

For the end, a few leftovers from the CBD

This is it. It was my 3rd visit to Singapore and I'm more than ever amazed by how lovely and pleasant this city is despite some criticism I'm hearing from time to time. If the humankind could create such a city then perhaps humans can be not that bad in managing their planet after all.

Cherrs and see you next time in SG!

The pics here are the best of your series so far!

Especially liked those shots gazing up at the skyscrapers, very slick! Also, thanks for the latest views from the Singapore Flyer!
