How are they going to keep the tree roots from invading and cracking the building walls and floors overtime? This can be a possible structural nightmare.

Well we're talking about small trees, with no aggressive roots. Plus, it is quite common to grow big plants in jars made out of concrete, usually close to garages and street tunnels, so i don't understand why it would be any different in this case.
Back to this tower, these plants will be automatically irrigated and sensors will be placed in order to have a daily overview about everything. Since the green areas on this tower will be sort of a "cladding" to it, it will be forbidden to remove them and all the maintenance duties will be carried out by a specialized team.

Yea on the render the trees don't seem to be that big. They just appear to be because it's all very green. Also, the concrete blocks and attachments seem to be pretty stable. I'm pretty sure the engineers and architects have thought about this so don't worry

The grown trees/shrubs can definitely reduce natural lighting from entering the individual units. Cooler effects on a hot sunny day or risk of a broken window on a stormy windy day?

This is a luxury building, i'm pretty sure there won't be any of these problems Btw, Milan is not windy at all!
I don't think the trees will reduce natural lightening more than other houses and plants do to a normal apartment in a town. Windows will be pretty wide, as the renders clearly show

Yeah, and not only is it great, but it is right behind Porta Garibaldi! ( I probably mauled the spelling of it- sorry)Do I sense a cluster begining to form?

I just noticed that Il Dritto from the Citylife complex [220m] has started construction as well. I think Milan is going to get a couple of clusters and this must be one of the biggest construction booms the city [at least the citycenter] has ever had. The skyline is going to change drastically Time for a visit sometime soon

yes, among the so called "second tier" european skylines Milan is probably the fastest improving one. Milan has a tradition of highrises (Grattacielo Pirelli, Breda and Galfa built back in the 50's) but then for 50 years almost nothing happened. The situation is changing dramatically in these years, and some projects like City Life or this Upright Forest are going to become unique landmarks for Milan.

There is a good possibility that I actually might see this myself after all this year. Probably visiting Milan for 3 days in july to visit some friends.
