I really wonder what they are going to do with so many aircraft in the future? Do they want to serve every single destination in the world or something?

Most of them will replace aircraft that will be old by the time the new ones are built and delivered. Emirates will not grow as much in the next 10 years as it has in the last 10.

Etihad to start flying Boeing 787 Dreamliner to United States

Quote:

Etihad Airways is to start flying its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to the United States from Sunday.

The aircraft will be used on the Abu Dhabi carrier’s daily Washington DC service.

“As the most technologically advanced aircraft in its class, the Boeing 787 will reduce the operating costs and carbon emissions on our Washington DC route and provide maximum efficiency and reliability,” said James Hogan, Etihad president and chief executive.

Nicole Kidman the ‘ideal’ face of Etihad

Quote:
ABU DHABI // When choosing the first brand ambassador for the emirate’s national airline, Etihad bosses not only wanted an A-list star but a credible spokesperson with a shared vision.

Nicole Kidman was a fit from the start, said Peter Baumgartner, chief commercial officer for Etihad Airways.

“We thought it was time to work with a really prominent celebrity,” he said. “It had to be someone who really shares the same values as the brand or that the brand is portraying and Nicole Kidman was an ideal candidate.

“Her reputation, the sophisticated personality she has, the style that she has, and her popularity of course.”

The fact she was already a frequent flyer with Etihad made her a credible source and spokesperson, he said.

“Also, for an actor with a reputation like Nicole, she could not afford to be associated with a brand she does not believe in,” said Mr Baumgartner. “So it is not just a question whether you pay a fee but whether there is a brand fit.”

And the Oscar winner was the perfect fit for Etihad in its ambition to become the best airline in the world, he said.

“Just looking at her body of work; she is always someone looking for the extraordinary, to push the boundaries.”

That is true but EK will still grow at huge rates. Look at their potential future fleet in 2025:

140 A380's (could be converted to A380 NEO's)
70 - 80 B77W's (assuming they retire most of them)
150 B778/9s
70 B787's or A350's

That is a massive fleet and the seats available are more than double what they have today. With that capacity, EK could be carrying over 100m passengers annually.

Yup, and here's a link for more info on the new Dubai to Orlando service.

The National: Emirates to fly to Orlando amid Open Skies row with US Carriers

Apparently their code sharing partnership with JetBlue (which has a huge base in Orlando) spurred Emirates to start service to Orlando.

What's interesting is that Emirates may be looking at tapping into Seattle's potential as a tech hub that it wants to provide more service to the Pacific Northwest, especially that the next potential airport down, in Portland (OR), may take some more time to develop before the airline explores opening a flight there. However, is SEA capable of handling the A380 on a daily basis? I mean, DXB-SFO and LAX both get to see the A380 daily, although once daily for each... yet having two nonstop flights a day would mean better connections for even more travelers.

I'm just surprised SEA went double daily before LAX, SAN, IAD and ORD. Never expected that.

Maybe the are planning to buy more planes from Boeing, then they could be needing this extra flight to send all the delivery crews to Seattle.
