Looks like a shot across the bow. With recent noises from DL/AA/UA, it makes sense for EK to start Orlando, allowing more rich Arabs to see Mickey, and thus enlist a very powerful advocate for open skies.

Honestly I am not even sure that Seattle's airport would be able to handle the A380 especially with it's current layout. That would probably be why Emirates is using the B777 for the route and upping the frequency.

Does anyone know if EK/EY/QR reacted to the news of the recent 4U crash?? I am wondering if they have a "two person in cockpit at all times" policy from before or something....

Yeah I don't think it can handle the A380.
As for the double daily flights, it seems strange to introduce a new flight instead of upgrading the first flight to a B77W. That seems like a more logical decision. Even if loads were in the 90's on the first flight and the cargo hold were full, doubling the capacity is still quite a risky thing to do.

Emirates Airline, the world’s largest by international traffic, also changed its rules. The Dubai-based carrier said it has “today implemented a new operating policy where there would always be two crew members in the cockpit.” The new guidance “is effective immediately,” a spokesman said.

I'm not sure about EY and QR, but I'm sure both would have also implemented the same rule.

EDIT: EY is now doing it as well:

Is there any reliable website, where I can find seating configuration of QR ac with information which reg has which seating? For example that A7-BAx's are 293+42, but A7-BAy's are 356+24?

Do you know why there is A7-AHJ and A7-AHL, but A7-AHK is missing?

Dubai’s Emirates Airline Net Profit Soars

DUBAI–Emirates Airline, the world’s largest by international traffic, on Thursday said full-year net profit rose 40% to its second-highest value ever, helped by a sharp fall in fuel prices amid a turbulent year for the Persian Gulf carrier.

Its net profit in the 12-month period ended March 31 amounted to $1.2 billion, Emirates said, its best financial year after posting record results in 2010-2011.

The airline’s revenue totaled $24.2 billion, up 7% on the year. Fuel accounted for 35% of operating costs, down from nearly 40% in previous years. It saved $545 million in fuel costs, Emirates said. But a stronger U.S. dollar negatively impacted its earnings by $412 million, it added.

Emirates, which has grown passengers in double-digits percentages almost every year in its 30-year history, said it carried 49.3 million passengers in the latest fiscal year, an increase of 11% despite facing some headwinds. Seat occupancy, or seat factor, averaged 79.6 percent, Sheikh Ahmed said, up from 79.4 percent in the prior year.

Emirates has suffered from closed airspace in conflict-plagued countries around Dubai, including Iraq, Syria, Libya Yemen and in Ukraine, while the Ebola epidemic in Africa deterred many Asian customers from flying. Dubai International airport also closed one of its two runways in an 80-day upgrade over the summer last year, grounding some Emirates planes. The airline said it lost $467 million in potential revenue due to the Dubai runway closure.

Emirates has also had to deal with labor unrest among its pilots and cabin-crew staff and faced accusations from U.S. carriers that the airline is subsidized by its state owners, allegations Emirates denies.

Emirates Group, which includes a raft of other businesses--hotels, a tour operator and airports operator Dnata--reported a full-year net profit of $1.5 billion, up 34% on the year.

In light of ongoing heated debate pitting three U.S. airlines against three Middle Eastern carriers, the U.S. government has opened a public forum seeking comment on claims by executives at Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and American Airlines that government subsidies afforded to Etihad, Emirates and Qatar Airways amount to unfair competition in international skies.

The forum, a joint effort by the U.S. Commerce, State and Transportation departments, is open to all interested parties who wish to express their opinions. A joint statement by the three departments references claims in a publicly available report, stating: “The U.S. government takes seriously the concerns raised in the report and is interested in receiving insights and feedback from stakeholders before any decisions are made regarding what action, if any, should be taken.”

Any interested person or group may submit information for consideration; submissions will undergo a joint review by the interagency team beginning in late May.

“Beginning today, any interested person or group may submit information, responses to existing materials, or any other analysis that they might wish to provide the U.S. government on this subject on the www.regulations.gov website,” the agencies said.

Jazeera bids for maximum 35% stake in Kuwait Airways privatization

http://atwonline.com/finance-data/ja...-privatization

Quote:
Kuwait’s privately owned Jazeera Airways is bidding for a stake in government-owned Kuwait Airways as part of the privatization process.

Jazeera has formally submitted a letter of intent to acquire 35% of Kuwait Airways, which is being privatized by the government of Kuwait. The 35% stake is the maximum allowed by a single private investor as stipulated under the privatization rules.

Jazeera Airways chairman Marwan Boodai said: “Today, we launch our bid for the acquisition of 35% of Kuwait Airways, armed with a vision to grow Kuwait Airways into a leading airline that meets the ambitions of the Kuwaitis and travelers across the world. As witnessed in airline privatization exercises over the last 50 years, we believe an efficiently run Kuwait Airways with a private sector management approach benefits all stakeholders, especially employees who will be presented with an opportunity to transform and grow the airline into one that travelers seek as a first choice rather than a last resort.”

The privatization of Kuwait Airways, one of the oldest airlines in the Middle East, will be the first privatization undertaken by the Kuwaiti government that exceeds the three billion dollar mark.

US mayors pitch against Gulf in airline subsidies row

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/us-ma...ow-593551.html

Quote:
Several US mayors have plunged into the row between Gulf and US airlines over alleged subsidies, urging the Obama administration to investigate the claims.

The three largest US airlines, United, Delta and American, accuse Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways of having received $42 billion of government subsidies, which, they allege, has helped the Gulf carriers to gain unfair market share over the past decade and represents a violation of Open Skies polices.

Ralph Becker of Salt Lake City, Daniel Clodfelter of Charlotte, Mike Duggan of Detroit, Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, Annise Parker of Houston, Betsy Price of Fort Worth and Kasim Reed of Atlanta have called on the US government to open consultations with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

They argue that a thorough investigation is required to uphold fair competition, the health of the US airline industry and the economic development of their cities.

Emirates will add Multan (1st August, 4 weekly B773) and Bologna (3rd November, daily B77W) to their network.

Yesterday first flight to Denpasar, Bali touched down.

The flight also transported passengers originating from more than 40 different cities to Bali, including Moscow, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and New York, among others, demonstrating Emirates’ global connectivity.

Any news regards to EK serving DXB-OPO?
With the recent announcement of a sponsorship deal with Lisbon Football Clube Benefica DXB-LIS will be up gauged to a double daily, however I feel OPO could use a daily A332 service considering a large majority of Portuguese travel OPO.

I flew on it about a week ago from DWC to DOH, they said the airframe was being used temporarily. The green interior looked really good.
