This has been all over the media the last few days. An EK A380 pilot makes a superb cross wind landing.

Big win for Qatar Airways: QR has (after years of waiting) managed to get additional landing rights in Australia and will finally fly to Sydney from March 1st, 2016. Flghts will be operated with a 777-300ER but very likely to be upgraded to the a380 after some time.

Qatar Airways to fly to Sydney from March 1st, 2016

Qatar Airways will begin flying to Sydney from March 1st 2016, in a move which sees the Oneworld member and de facto Qantas partner lining up against its 'Gulf three' siblings and rivals, Emirates and Etihad.
The daily flights between Sydney and Doha will operate on a Boeing 777-300ER with fully-flat business class beds.
Flight QR909 will depart Sydney at 10.20pm to reach Doha at 5.05am the next day, with onwards connections to London and Europe.
The companion flight QR908 is set for wheels-up from Doha at 8.10pm for an 6.05pm arrival into Sydney.
Sydney joins Melbourne and Perth on Qatar's Australian network map despite previous protests by airline CEO Akbar Al Baker that Sydney Airport's curfew would stymie fast connections from Doha.
"We are delighted to debut our daily Sydney flights next March" Al Baker said in a statement to welcome the new flights.
"The expansion of our Australia services will undoubtedly boost and strengthen the trade and commercial links that exist between Qatar and Australia, setting the stage for even more robust partnership opportunities in the near future."

Looks like this Dubai Airshow will be a quiet one (unless Tim Clark is bluffing us like Al Baker always does):
- Emirates a350-900/787-10 order won't be announced there yet.
- No a380neo launch either apparently (Tim Clark's comments abt the a380 doesn't sound like the launch will happen during the show)

What is more likely to happen is Airbus's launch of an extended range version of the a350-900.

Quote:
Emirates to choose between A350-900 and 787-10 next year

Emirates will not choose between the Airbus A350-900 or the Boeing 787-10 until next year, chief executive Tim Clark has confirmed quashing speculation that the Dubai air show might bring a high-profile order for one of the midsize widebodies from the local flag carrier.

Clark has also ruled out a commitment at the show for more Airbus A380s although he is still urging Toulouse to launch a revamped "A380neo" variant of the superjumbo.

Emirates has "all the data we need to make an assessment" of the baseline A350 and the stretched Dreamliner, although a decision is "not imminent", Clark told Flightglobal today.

"It will be in 2016 but when, I don't know and it will be one or the other," he adds.

Emirates cancelled its original order for 70 A350-900/1000s last year, but Clark says he is happy with revised performance numbers from Airbus, now that the -900 has entered service. "We are now getting meaningful figures," he says. "The originals were just estimates."

Clark had also expressed concerns over the 787-10's hot-weather performance in the Gulf summer. He says "there are still issues with the -10", but he maintains that Emirates has been "testing it on paper" and is satisfied it could fulfil a role.

"We wouldn't put it on New York or Sydney, but as a workhorse up to 8.5h without a kink in the payload, it looks like a good aeroplane," he says.

Clark says he does not think Airbus will launch an A380neo at the air show and suggests Emirates would not be able to incorporate any more of the ultra-large aircraft at its close-to-capacity Dubai International (DXB) base for now anyway.

However, he remains keen on a new version of the superjumbo. "If [Airbus] do develop it, it would be of interest to everybody, and I'd like to see them sell more A380s," he says. He adds that an A380neo would not have to be a bigger aircraft, but that a new engine and aerodynamic tweaks could make the existing A380 up to 13% more economical.

Despite congestion at DXB, Clark says the new Dubai World Central, or Al Maktoum International, will not be ready for Emirates to relocate its passenger operations until the second half of the 2020s.

The new airport, in the Jebel Ali district south of Dubai, is earmarked to become the world's biggest hub but currently consists of one runway and a modest terminal building, and is used mainly as a cargo airport and by a handful of carriers.

"We are having to manage a very compressed airport here [DXB] and it's focusing a lot of our attention these days," says Clark. Although efficiencies are being introduced in terms of "brake to vacate" processes on runways, dual arrival procedures and air traffic control, he says Emirates is having to operate "very compressed banks" of flights. "Ultimately, there are only a certain number of parking spaces and it's becoming more difficult," he says.

I also think no order will be placed with Boeing until the whole subsidies claims against EK are shelved, and put to rest in the States.

Also no order will be placed for the 787-10 until Boeing increases the thrust. Airbus has the upper hand now when it comes to pricing because of the strong USD.

Regarding the A380NEO Airbus needs EK more than EK needs Airbus with today's price of oil. If oil prices stay low EK can keep they're SJ in the fleet for the next twenty years, and good luck to Airbus finding new customers.

U.S. Says Kuwait Airways Discriminated Against Israeli Passenger

http://skift.com/2015/10/03/u-s-says...eli-passenger/

Quote:
In a challenge to boycotts of Israel, the U.S. government has found that Kuwait Airways unlawfully discriminated against a passenger traveling on an Israeli passport by refusing to sell him a ticket for a New York to London flight.

Eldad Gatt, an Israeli citizen, complained to the Department of Transportation (DOT) that in 2013 he was unable to buy a ticket from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York to London Heathrow Airport through Kuwait Airways because the airline’s online booking system prevented him from selecting Israel as his passport-issuing country.

The department investigated and initially rejected Gatt’s discrimination complaint, according to a statement and letter provided by transportation officials. But when Gatt appealed the department’s decision, the case was reopened and the department ultimately concluded that the airline had violated a different federal law than the one initially cited by Gatt.

“We considered Mr. Gatt’s claim upon an alternative ground…which holds that an ‘air carrier or foreign air carrier may not subject a person, place, port or type of traffic in foreign air transportation to unreasonable discrimination,'” Blane Workie, DOT’s assistant general counsel for enforcement said in a letter to the airline.

By refusing to transport Israeli citizens to and from the U.S. and a third country that accepts Israeli citizens, in this case the U.K., the airline is in violation of the law, the letter said.

“We expect [Kuwait Airways] to sell tickets to and transport Israeli citizens between the U.S. and any third country where they are allowed to disembark based on the laws of that country,” Workie said.

The airline explained that it’s against the law in Kuwait to do business with any Israeli citizen or company, and that punishment for a violation could result in imprisonment and hard labor, according to the department.

“We do not find the interest of Kuwait in the enforcement of its laws in this case to be greater than the interest of the United States in the enforcement of its laws,” the letter said. “It is our view that the U.S. interest in providing nondiscriminatory access to air transportation to an individual traveling from the U.S. to a third country that allows that individual’s entry is greater than Kuwait’s interest in applying its economic boycott of Israel.”

The department said it is aware of another, similar complaint.

The department has given the airline 15 days to respond. A range of enforcement actions are possible, beginning with civil penalties. Kuwait Airways officials didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

Etihad brings forward its first A380 flight to New York

Quote:
Etihad has brought forward the first scheduled flight of its Airbus A380 service to New York.

The Abu Dhabi carrier was originally due to start the service to John F Kennedy Airport on December 1, but said that it has changed the first flight to November 23.

The updated arrival date and additional capacity for the A380 service comes in response to strong demand from Etihad Airways guests who are travelling during the USs busy Thanksgiving holiday, as well as to attend the 2015 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix taking place from November 27 to 29, it said in a statement.

Flight KU104: Kuwait airways passenger aeroplane declares 'emergency' over English Channel

The A300 Airbus aeroplane has now landed 'safely' in London Heathrow

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a6695021.html

Quote:
A Kuwait Airways plane has declared an "emergency" over the English Channel and returned to London Heathrow airport.

Flight KU104, en route to Kuwait, is believed to have encountered problems and turned around about 30km of the coast.

A spokesperson for Heathrow airport confirmed the plane had landed safely but the airport could not release any information on what may have caused the flight to turn back.

It is believed the plane has been in service since 1992. The model can generally carry 266 passengers and is most frequently used for short to medium-range flights.

The A300 Airbus is one of five used by the international carrier, based in Kuwait. The company has flown to 34 international locations since November 2013.
