Qatar Airways CEO says carrier is already streaming black box data

http://www.runwaygirlnetwork.com/201...lack-box-data/

Quote:
Ten months ago, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker vowed to bring streaming of black box data to the carrier’s fleet. During the recent delivery of Qatar’s 25th Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in Everett, Washington, RGN asked Al Baker for an update on the airline’s progress. “Yeah, we’re already doing this. As a matter of fact, we are doing this for nearly a year,” said Al Baker in reference to the carrier’s streaming of flight data recorder (FDR) information.

“All the data that is being transmitted by aircraft, we are collecting all the data and we have in our OCC [operations control center] three individuals sitting and monitoring every single flight of Qatar Airways. The systems on the ground are receiving data from the aircraft every five seconds. Every fifteen seconds, the OCC individuals will chart those flights and, if there is the slightest deviation, they will receive an ACARS message to explain why this diversion or deviation from the established flight plan happened. All the data from the airplane is constantly transmitted on the ground and is recorded in our operations control center,” said Al Baker.

Australia and UAE agree to boost flights
Excerpt

SYDNEY, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Australia on Friday announced a deal with the United Arab Emirates that will significantly boost flight numbers between the two countries, a move that is expected to increase tourism and possibly reduce ticket prices.

The bilateral agreement allows carriers based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to operate an extra 14 flights a week to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, bringing the total number of services to 161.

Australian airlines receive an extra 14 flight slots in return to the UAE, bringing the total to 56.

"The Australian Government is committed to supporting the entry of Australian airlines into foreign markets and ensuring we have the aviation capacity necessary to meet future demand," Acting Prime Minister Warren Truss said.

Australia's flagship carrier Qantas Airways Ltd switched its hub for European flights to Dubai from Singapore in 2013, after ditching IAG-owned British Airways as an alliance partner in favour of Emirates Airline.

Virgin Australia, which launched flights to Abu Dhabi in 2011, last month received a draft ruling from regulators in favour of it renewing its alliance with Etihad Airways. Virgin needs that tie-up, under which Etihad owns a 24 percent stake in Virgin and holds a seat on the board, to better compete against the more dominant Qantas-Emirates alliance.

The shifting skies are reflected in passenger data. Emirates now carries more than 25 percent of the traffic between Australia and Europe, followed by Qantas with about 15 percent and Singapore Airlines with just under 15 percent.

And on the other hand, Germany and Canada keep whining about it and refuse to grant more flying rights to their respective countries.

Only the Big 3 airlines in the US are whining!!! They have Open sky Policy here which means any UAE airline can have as many flights to US as possible!! Not the same as "restricting" UAE based airline flights as in the case of Germany and Canada!!

oops my bad! I meant to write Canada, not USA my apologies! But as I live in Hamburg in Germany and personally prefer to fly with the ME3 mostly, I would like it if the Germans could give more flight rights for them here. Only EK flies to HAM, its been ages since I last flew on QR or EY. I would definitely like to try them both especially in their newer aircraft, so someday I hope QR can also operate to HAM, it has been on their wishlist for a long time!

Iraqi Airways to launch flights to Washington DC

http://iraqnews.co.uk/2015/11/27/ira...washington-dc/

Quote:
Iraq Airways has announced that it will begin its first direct flights from Baghdad to Washington early next year, Iraqi Airways’ Director told reporters.

“The preparation has been done after several meetings were held with the administrative bodies of the airports that Iraq is planning to travel to,” Iraqi Airways’ Director said, announcing that flights also would be starting to Belarus and Tunisia.

Iraqi Airways’ Director had also stated that the airline is trying to connect Iraq to most countries around the world, and the airline is busy negotiating with airports where it wants to land.

Iraq’s Ministry of Transportation, said Iraq would soon be receiving new commercial aircraft.

“There should be more attention given to airlines and the newest planes need to provided,” he said. “By the end of this month, some 32 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft will be provided to Iraqi airline companies,” Iraq’s Ministry of Transportation added.

Iraqi Airways, founded in 1945, is one of the oldest Middle Eastern carriers and offers a mix of domestic and international services to over 40 destinations.

Kuwait Airways to launch Sharm el-Sheikh flights – Bid to support Egypt’s tourism sector

http://www.arabtimesonline.com/news/...ourism-sector/

Quote:
DUBAI, Nov 23, (RTRS): Kuwait Airways will launch direct flights to Sharm el-Sheikh starting on Dec 1 to support Egypt’s tourism sector following a Russian plane crash that killed 224 people, Kuwait’s minister of information was quoted as saying. State news agency KUNA quoted Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah as saying at a conference in Cairo that the primary purpose of the new regular flights was to boost Kuwaiti support for Egypt, under direct orders from the Amir, Kuwait’s state carrier already flies to Cairo, Alexandria and Sohag but has offered only seasonal flights to Sharm el- Sheikh, a beach and diving holiday destination on the Red Sea. With Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait has provided billions of dollars of aid in the last two years to support Egypt’s economy and help maintain political stability.

The Russian airliner’s crash on Oct 31 after taking off from Sharm el-Sheikh is expected to hit Egypt’s vital tourism industry, already ravaged by years of political instability following the 2011 uprising which overthrew Hosni Mubarak. Russia’s FSB security service has said it is certain a bomb brought down the Airbus jet, joining Britain and the United States in reaching that conclusion. Since the crash, some airlines have suspended flights to Sharm el-Sheikh for security reasons.
