Kuwait Airways plans new first class cabin for 777 fleet

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/kuwai...et-619492.html

Quote:
Kuwait Airways Corp is readying a new first-class cabin for its Boeing 777 aircraft as it seeks to catch up with the luxury offerings of its Gulf rivals.

The new product will be based on the “suite principle” and give passengers greater privacy and comfort, chief commercial officer Philip Saunders said in an interview at the Bahrain Air Show. It will be introduced in November on routes to New York and London, as well as to other European destinations.

“Expect to see something far more in line with, if not better than, what’s offered on a regional basis,” Saunders said. “It’s a very significant investment.”

Kuwait Air is trying to keep up with regional peers in pampering first-class passengers. Dubai-based Emirates is developing a new cabin focused on privacy while Qatar Airways is working on a “super premium” seat that it plans to patent and roll out in its wide-body planes. Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways has introduced the Residence with three rooms and a dedicated butler.

Kuwait Air’s new product won’t be exactly the same as those of its regional competitors, Saunders said.

“We want to make sure the airline is able to compete with all of our neighbors and there’s no need to go via a third point when Kuwait Air can take you to the majority of key destinations in comfort and in a good schedule,” he said. “This won’t happen overnight, this is a program over the next few years.”

Kuwait Air is rebounding after a restructuring plan that helped cut losses, Saunders said. The state-owned airline competes on short-haul routes with Jazeera Airways.

Qatar announced that it would launch Doha-Auckland non stop route. This route is said to be the longest flight in the future. But the question is, what type of airplane would be used?

This Could Soon Be the Longest Flight in the World

Qatar Airways could be the next airline to nab the title of longest nonstop flight in the world. Currently, the longest flight is operated by Qantas, from Sydney to Dallas — that’s 8,578 miles. But Qatar Airways is planning to launch a Doha to Auckland flight that will go nearly 500 miles farther.
The 9,030-mile route is estimated to take 18.5 hours, compared to Qantas’s 16 hours and 55 minutes. But that’s not enough of a win — to cement its place at the top of the list, Qatar Airways will also take over the No. 2 spot by launching the second longest flight in the world too, from Doha to Santiago, Chile.
Qatar Airways has been growing steadily in recent years, along with its Gulf area competitor Etihad Airways, as both have established the region as key transfer hub for both business and leisure travelers going from the U.S. to Asia or Europe.

This announcement, mentioned in Bloomberg Business interview with CEO Akbar Al Baker, would continue that growth — and snag the airline some bragging rights at the same time.

But maybe not for long. View from the Wing reported that Qantas is could regain the title with a nonstop flight between Perth and London planned for 2017.
Still, none of these flights is as long as Singapore Airlines’ old Singapore–Newark nonstop route, which covered 9,536 miles and took 19 hours. It was discontinued in 2013, but could be coming back in 2018.

Too late, EK just announced it today:

Emirates is to start a non-stop service from Dubai to Auckland from March 1, marking one of the world’s longest flights.

http://www.thenational.ae/business/a...worlds-longest

Given the very quick announcement of this flight just days after QR mentioned the route, it seems as if EK reacted and announced the route to keep the record for the world's longest flight, and keep QR and EY out of NZ. Its crazy that a tiny market like NZ will receive 4 A380's and now a direct flight to DXB as well!

This is one of those rare situations when EK copies Qatar and not vice versa. Oh wait they did that in Houston too. ...Doha-Auckland will still be longer than Dubai-Auckland!!

There won't be enough traffic to fill A380s on that route...I will be surprised if even the 777-200LRs run full!!

Does the A380 have the legs to do that route both ways?

Qatar haven't announced anything officially, and for all you know, EK have been considering doing AKL non-stop for a while. Rumours of QR starting might have swayed EK's decision on timing, but I wouldn't accuse them of copying.

If that is not copying, then what is? Qatar's CEO has this habit of pompously announcing new long haul routes while ordering the equipment (aircraft) to fly those routes or when there is a delay in delivery....This has always backfired for them...Emirates just fills up those routes before them as they have no aircraft constraints!!

I agree. It really does seem like EK copied QR on this occasion. The route was announced just a month before it will begin, and right after QR announced their intentions. Moreover, EK loves to publicize their new routes, and this Auckland flight will become the longest in the world. They made a big deal about their Panama City flight being the longest, but they will be beating their own record. All of this is very unlike EK...

I wouldn't be surprised if the aircraft was half full. AKL is already well served with NZ, MU, CX, SQ, and TG all serving this small and not very high yielding market. I wonder if all these ultra long haul routes EK has announced will stay viable if the oil price rises to $100+...

I could be wrong but I believe he was referring to EK up gauging DXB-SIN-MEL to an A380 but I always thought the SIN service terminates in MEL?
