EK recently signed an agreement with THALES to provide IFE screens on their upcoming 777X aircraft. What do you guys think about the THALES system?

There has been some criticisms because of this already. Personally, I prefer the Panasonic ones more, which EK has been using so far for the inflight entertainment screens. while THALES screens do look nice and feature USB and headphone plug-ins with the screen, I'm not a fan of that system. Their screens' touch sensitivity really sucks and people would complain about the person behind their seat making loud poking noises..

Its actually a small upgrade by EK's standards.
I'm surprised the route has only average a 78% load factor this year, and this was considered to be up. Can't imagine how low it was in previous years.

And I'm so surprised that a small market like Ireland can continue to absorb so much capacity from so many airlines. Very impressive.

Sorry, why can't I retrieve Emirates booking through checkmytrip.com???

Is Emirates using Amadeus, or another reservation system???

The article says the next upguage might be a 2 class A380 ...another 200 pax. We will probably never see that.

Many EMEA HQ operations are in Ireland. Google, Facebook. Amazon Apple etc. But the bad news is that Al Baker is coming soon.

..and Buffalo as well, at least that's what the rumor is, Phoenix and Buffalo. While Phoenix may be understandable, Buffalo seems a weird destination to be for EK..

As someone who lives in Buffalo, NY .... that rumor makes no sense. Sure tons of Canadians do come over the boarder to fly out of BNIA but not enough for Emirates and International Route like that.

Also a fully loaded 777 could barely take off from the BNIA runway.

If they indeed launch Buffalo, I don't think EK will operate it will a fully loaded 777 for runway length issues. And I think it might just be to 'nudge' the Canadian government, because Canada is quite restrictive for gulf operators to operate flights to Canada. EK and EY both fly only 3x/week to Toronto. Attemps to operate daily flights and/or to other Canadian destinations have been failed in the past so..

I am not sure what the issue is, but I don't think there is a single airline from a Islamic World that gets a daily service to Toronto. Than again, we had some luck to catch two EK's airplanes at YYZ recently. There was a 77W refueling on their way from Dubai to Houston, Texas. Shortly after, EK A380 landed that flew DXB - YYZ. Too bad I was not there to enjoy the action.

Only for the UAE since it is restricted by the bilateral air agreement between the 2 countries. I suppose Air Canada did a lot of lobbying since many India-bound passengers would transit in Dubai.

Actually the Canadian Transportation Act applies the same to every foreign airline/country which is six weekly flights to Canada. It's the airlines willingness to choose which airports in Canada they will use those six slots at.

After a while of flying to Canada an airline has the opportunity to request additional flights.

Why was the flight to Houston (the energy capital of the world) refueling in Toronto?

Emirates and Etihad need to share 6 flights a week per the bilateral agreement between the UAE and Canada : https://www.otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/united-arab-emirates

Allocation is 3 flights per airline. Note that Emirates has maxed out its allowable frequencies.

To get around Canadian restrictions EK are even codesharing with a BUS in Vancouver. You actually fly to Seattle and your onward 'flight' is by bus.

I personally find the bus codeshare option pretty irrelevant. I mean, sure it gives EK passengers another option to get to Vancouver, but imagine after 15 hours on a flight from Dubai to Seattle/LAX/YYZ, would you rather connect to another 2-5 hour leg to YVR with their codeshares with Air Canada, Westjet, Alaska Airlines, or take a 5 hour bus trip?

Like what Ben said in that article, I really think they're doing this "just as a further jab at Canadas protectionist policies."
