"Manchester Airport becomes first outside London with direct route to Oman"

"Middle Eastern airline Oman Air has launched its daily service between Manchester and Muscat.

The carrier said its new route to the Omani capital, which is the only service of its kind in the UK outside London, forms part of a wider strategy to expand its fleet and network.

The inaugural flight landed in Manchester at 19.05 on May 1, carrying CEO Paul Gregorowitsch along with a host of dignitaries, media and members of the Oman Air senior management team.

Officials from Manchester Airport and the city’s Lord Mayor were on hand to greet the passengers upon arrival.

Oman Air’s new Manchester service will take 7.5 hours and leave the airport every day at 20.45, touching down in Muscat at 07.20 the day following. Return flights will depart Muscat International Airport at 14.00 to arrive in Manchester at 19.05.

The route is operated by an A330-200.

Oman Air chief exec Paul Gregorowitsch said: “The addition of this flight to and from Manchester is a pivotal development and demonstrates our commitment to the UK market.

“Oman Air is the only carrier operating direct flights to the Sultanate outside of London, offering British and Omani travellers the convenience of flying direct between the north of England and Muscat.“

He continued: “There is of course also the opportunity to connect with Oman Air’s global network, over 27 destinations have connectivity inside of three hours in both directions and our extremely keen pricing means that Oman Air offers a really attractive option for travellers from Manchester or those visiting from Oman.“

Manchester Airport deputy CEO Collette Roche commented: "It is pleasing to see Oman Air commence daily direct flights to Muscat from Manchester.
“As well as connecting these two cities, the route opens up access to the airline’s incredible onward connectivity across Asia and beyond.“

She added: “The fact this route in the UK can only be found at Manchester outside of London clearly showcases the role we play as a gateway for the North. We look forward to working with Oman Air as they grow from Manchester.“"

Any reason why there's been a lot of reduction in their US service?

Also the fact that their biggest transit market from the US, South Asia has seen lesser number of professionals and vacationers traveling between the 2 areas!!

Emirates Group Announces 2016-17 results

DUBAI, UAE, 11 May 2017 - The Emirates Group today announced its 29th consecutive year of profit and steady business expansion, despite a turbulent year for aviation and travel.

Released today in its 2016-17 Annual Report, the Emirates Group posted an AED 2.5 billion (US$ 670 million) profit for the financial year ending 31 March 2017, down 70% from last year’s record profit. The Group’s revenue reached AED 94.7 billion (US$ 25.8 billion), an increase of 2% over last year’s results, and the Group’s cash balance decreased by 19% to AED 19.1 billion (US$ 5.2 billion) mainly due to the repayment of two bonds on maturity and ongoing high investments into its fleet and aircraft related assets.

CEO Hogan has finally left Etihad and an interim CEO is in full charge until the Autumn.

With Hogan goes the entire 'investment' in Al Italia. What a waste.

Not only Al Italia. Air Berlin adventure was also financial disaster.

Not to mention, under Hogan EY was clearly surpassed by QR and EK. Now the gap between EK/QR and EY is wider than ever.

EY was founded in 2003. Qatar Airways in 1998 and Emirates in 1986.....One has to credit Hogan with EY's rapid growth in such a short span of time...Ofcourse, he went crazy with acquisitions as he never anticipated that the labour unions in Europe were going to be his Achilles' heal....The acquisition mode was the only way he could have built the scale of network up for Etihad rapidly....If it were'nt for the oil price and Abu Dhabi suddenly going on a panic mode, cutting from every corner, Etihad would have still continued to grow and atleast Air Berlin would have been profitable in a few years, if not the case for Alitalia..

They are not growing as nobody wants to go back to that hellhole of an airport in Abu Dhabi and the new airport terminal is now delayed 2 more years at least.

Lots of Turkic jihadis from Western China live in Turkey/North Syria. Turkey have given asylum to 10s of thousands, including their families.
