Anyone know any info on why there was a Qatar Airways A340 in Phoenix Arizona yesterday? As far as i knew the only transatlantic airline the airport here receives is British Airways on a 747.

Glasgow possible destination for Qatar Airways by 2013
17 March 2010

Qatar Airways, one of the world’s leading airlines, has announced that it plans to double in size by 2013 and that Glasgow is a possible future destination.

The airline, which currently flies to 86 worldwide destinations from its hub in Doha, expects to grow this number to 120 by 2013.

Qatar Airways came close to announcing flights to Glasgow International Airport late in 2009, as the city was short-listed as one of a number of possible new European destinations. However the Middle Eastern airline opted for Barcelona and Copenhagen instead.

Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive, said: “Qatar Airways is demonstrating its continued commitment to growth. As our fleet increases, we are able to raise capacity on existing services and introduce new routes, which is continuing as planned despite the industry facing challenges amid the current global economic climate.”

Great stuff.

Flew with Qatar Airways on DOH-JED on A330, and can easily say it was by far one of the best flights I ever had, top notch service by the crew, amazing aircraft and the best airline food on any other carrier ive been on.

Emirates Airline Crew Members Jailed For Sexually Explicit Text Messages

Emirates Airline Crew Members Jailed For Sexually Explicit Text Messages

New reports are now showing that two members of the Emirates airline cabin crew have been jailed for three months in Dubai. Apparently the two were jailed for exchanging a series of sexually explicit text messages.

The two members, which were an Indian flight attendant and her cabin service supervisor at the airline, were convicted of coercion to commit sin. This initially was going to land them six months in jail. After the sentence, the pair was to be deported from the United Arab Emirates.

However, the sentence was later reduced to tree months after an appeal, which took place just last week. The deportation orders for the pair have been lifted. Court papers did not reveal the content of the messages or just how sexually explicit they were.

The Court in Dubai ruled that the Emirates Airline staff members had planned to commit sin in reference to an extra marital affair. This is a sin that is illegal in the United Arab Emirates. However, later it was determined that there was insufficient proof to confirm that the couple actually had an affair, and this lead to a reduced jail sentence.

The messages actually first appeared just last year in a divorce case brought by the woman’s estranged husband. This is now the second such case to make headlines in Dubai in just a few weeks.

Not too long ago a British couple, including a man from north London, found themselves in court after kissing in public. The couple, ages 24 and 25, will now be appealing against a one month prison sentence. This sentence was issued after the couple was seen allegedly kissing on the mouth at a restaurant. This is a breach of Dubai’s strict decency laws. After this, they were arrested by police and appeared in court last week.

They got the sentence mainly because of infidelity not because of the messages.

Not if you are in a country where Islam is the largest religion. It's against the law and where they were aware of it. They should respect the culture of the UAE.

It depends on what you define as cosmopolitan.
And as I said earlier it is not about the text messages it is about the infidelity.

Do you think infidelity is a good experience for the person being cheated on ?

I am not talking about a religion. I am just talking about the basic decency to divorce your wife if you want to have a relationship with someone else.

I visit Dubai at least once a year and it is a very nice city, but some of your rules and laws are ridiculous to say the least. There is no reason for the state to be handling such things as cheating.

There's also the basic decency of, say not cutting in line at the supermarket. But there's no laws against that, is there?

Also, for a city into tourism as much as Dubai, I think they really should do something about their 'strict laws' against tourists. Works pretty well for Egypt (Sharm-el-Sheikh) for example.
