Right indeed. I was just mixing two things up because it seems like the rumor of QR and EK did not push through after all. It's an interesting development though that QR is invited to join oneworld...

Speaking of alliances, question: do airlines apply to join an alliance, or is it the alliance inviting prospect airlines to join them?

Any news about Qatar and their small markets such as Sofia, Bucharest, Budapest and so on. Any chance for bigger birds to be deployed on these thin routes? Would WAW be served with a widebody?

When? In timetables still appears the A 320.

Usually, the shorter routes would be served by a narrow-bodied aircraft first to test the route before upgrading it to a wide-body if the demand is there. In the case of WAW, probably the demand is there that the airline will deploy an A330 when initially, QR wanted to deploy an A320. And if the airline is to use either the A320 or A330, the scheduling system should list the aircraft used as EQV.

Any chance of bumping YYZ to daily with an A380? We have to arm you with some cash to go against lufthansa.

With what, EK? I think EK could do that, but it might need a lighter version of the plane to test the demand first.

And by the way, a little plug: QR to operate B787 to London-Heathrow from 13 December 2012, making it the third destination to be served by the airline's newest aircraft type. Schedule:

QR075 DOH0625 – 1105LHR 788 D
QR076 LHR1505 – 0045+1DOH 788 D

Which Gulf-based airline other than Emirates flew to Amsterdam?

My guesses: QR and SV, if not KU.

Saudi Arabian Airlines, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Yemenia, Iraqi Airways (Is that the Gulf) all came to Amsterdam in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

Qatar or Etihad never flew regular passenger flight to Amsterdam. They only where founded when the direct flights became the norm, and they never used Amsterdam as a stopover for their North American flights.

I mean in the present days. Because I'm planning to go to Amsterdam from Jakarta (or is possible Surabaya), Indonesia.

Not sure if I have asked already, but I want to know if gulf carriers(EK) refuel in Europe? Most of their aircraft have enough range to fly back to their hubs.

Yes, just like any other airline, but I can see where your going with this.

You've got at least two choices: KLM or Garuda Indonesia... for Surabaya, you would definitely need to switch flights either in Singapore or Jakarta. Other available flights include Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, or Thai Airways.

I don't think so. EK does nonstops between LAX, SFO, and DXB daily with B77Ws and B77Ls without any problems. Those use the polar routes to complete their trips.

That's not the area where I was aiming at. I was asking for the shorthops such as ATH, IST, VCE, SVO/DME/GVA/ZRH/VIE. I am asking for the 4-5 hour segments operated with a larger, long range aircraft. I am sure they can do a return flight on a single tank from Dubai.
