Where did you get the info that says its a 4star airline?

Perhaps it still lacks one aspect that a 5star airline has?

BTW its logo is fine and classy, very sharp and elegant. Many carriers use their flags on the livery like South African, JAL(boring design), Korean Air, British Airways, etc.

They are both good. Etihad gives more spacious seating in economy class. Emirates disappointed me perhaps because I was expecting more from an airline that had won so many accolades. On the other hand changing planes through Dubai Airport is a much nicer experience than Abu Dhabi Airport.

Qatar and Gulf Air are also copying the Emirates model.

Etihad business class is miles ahead of emirates. I fly weekly on both and would choose etihad in a heart best for service, cabin crew, meals, entertainment (although emirates is good with ICE but afetr 3 weeks you have seen everything),and the age of the planes,
emirates is better for airport (until the new AD airport is completed) and the limo pick up and drop off, routes
overall considering Emirates has had 20 year head start on Etihad, Etihad is catching up fast

I prefer Qatar of course, but out of the two EK or EY, I would prefer EK (emirates) since they fly to more destinations and have a higher frequency to cities that Etihad.

But the seating in Emirates is a nightmare. THeir business class is like economy and their First class is like Business!!!

Etihad Airways starts New York flights today/Etihad Airways aims to expand fleet size

MUSCAT Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, launches its daily service to New York City, Americas commercial capital today.
It will be the Abu Dhabi-based airlines 35th international destination and the second to North America, following the success of the three times a week service to Toronto, Canada.
New York is one of the most exciting global destinations an airline can fly to and will play a significant role in bringing leisure and business travellers to the UAE and the region, said Geert Boven, VP commercial, Etihad Airways.
To celebrate the launch, a special ceremony will be held at Abu Dhabi International Airport, with officials from the American Embassy in the UAE, the American business community and senior Etihad management in attendance

Etihad Airways aims to expand fleet size to 45

Geert Boven and Khalid Al Mehairbi, Vice-President corporate affairs, join cabin crew for the send-off of Etihad's new flight to New York

Dubai: Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, will expand its fleet size to 45 from the current 22, by adding an aircraft per month, a spokesperson said.

"We have a total of 29 aircraft on order and now we have 22 in the fleet. However, there are options along with the firm orders which we might exercise, increasing the fleet size to 45," Ian Ferguson-Brown, Etihad's spokesperson, told Gulf News yesterday.

"We are currently receiving an aircraft per month and it will continue until we reach 45."

Etihad today launches its daily service to New York City, offering a new option for US travellers coming to the UAE.

This will be the sole service between Abu Dhabi and the Big Apple. New York is well connected to Dubai with three daily flights operated by Emirates.

Air connections between the UAE and the US will receive a further boost in May next year when Delta relaunches its services to the UAE with five flights a week to Dubai from Atlanta.

Etihad's new flights will be the Abu Dhabi-based airline's 35th international destination and the second to North America, following the success of the three-a-week service to Toronto, Canada.

"New York is one of the most exciting global destinations an airline can fly to and will play a significant role in bringing leisure and business travellers to the UAE and the region," said Geert Boven, Etihad's Vice-President Commercial.

"Our guests will be afforded the very best in Etihad luxury, hospitality and entertainment aboard our brand-new Airbus A340-500. The aircraft has been purpose-built to our own specifications and can carry 240 guests in the Diamond, Pearl and Coral zones."

To celebrate the launch a ceremony will be held at Abu Dhabi International Airport, with officials from the American Embassy in the UAE, the American business community and senior Etihad management attending.

Etihad flight EY503 will depart Abu Dhabi International Airport daily at 2:15pm and arrive at JFK Airport's Terminal Four at 9:25pm.

The return flight, EY504, departs New York at 11.10pm and arrives in Abu Dhabi at 8.25pm the next day.

Etihad currently offers flights for guests and cargo to 45 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.

"The booking outlook for the next few weeks is positive with a combination of business and leisure travellers dominating the passenger list," Ferguson-Brown said.

Following the launch of its flights to the Big Apple, Ferguson-Brown said, the carrier is also looking at connecting Abu Dhabi with a US West Coast city.

"With the A340-500 aircraft, we are looking at a West Coast destination like Los Angeles, where we will be able to operate non-stop flights from Abu Dhabi. We currently have four A340-500s in the fleet. We are going to receive more of them in the coming months," he said.
