Good news: yes, Etihad Airways has already signed a codeshare pact with Air Canada. The only thing though is that the deal is subject to regulatory approval, meaning the only thing missing to make this into fruition is that the codesharing will be approved by both aviation authorities in the UAE and Canada. So my best guess will be in the foreseeable future -- probably in a few more months.

Appears EK are satisfied with the A380 performance & keen to order more.

However, an additional order by Emirates of Airbus A380s will depend on the infrastructure at Dubai Airport.

It's not the number of available gates that are limiting capacity at DXB...it's a lack of usable runways and airspace limitations. The two closely-spaced parallel runways are already scheduled far beyond capacity during many hours of the day. 0700-1000 and 2000-0300 are periods that almost always result in airborne holding and extensive gate holds for departures due to saturation over the same departure fixes.

So with that case, how's DXB going to cope? I recall that DWC is under construction at the moment, but for the short-term, has DXB considered adding a third runway to cope with the explosive growth in demand? And how many more A380s will EK be able to operate over time, especially when DWC opens?

Emirates disappointed me perhaps because I was expecting more from an airline that had won so many accolades.

It looks like Etihad will bring in interesting times, not just for Serbia, but also for connecting passengers between North America and Eastern Europe. I wonder if and when EY will operate A330s to BEG, especially that it operates a lot of wide-bodied aircraft... and I also ask how much of JAT will Etihad own?

They are targeting Asia and Australia from BEG, so I am not sure about North America. Prior to the takeover, Jat Airways signed up codeshare agreements beyond BEG and AUH to feed EY in BEG. So having said that, we could see the widebody on some busy days. The summer has just begun.. As for the ownership, EY is looking at 49%. JU and Serbia got some decent bilateral agreements around the world. For example, they could feed AUH via BEG from YYZ on the daily basis because Jat used to serve YYZ for the two decades. So lets see where it takes them. I wish them all the best.

North America will be targeted through Air Berlin, also partially owned by Etihad.

Ownership % is not important, EY is getting full control over management (very good thing considering how amateurish and political things can get in a state owned company).

That's pretty good because it will allow JAT to be reorganized and find ways to be profitable again. I would imagine, though, what kind/s of aircraft will Etihad buy for the struggling carrier so that it can regain its wings again, as well as what destinations will it launch from Belgrade, and whether or not the airline will be able to catch up to its European rivals, especially that the airline has had an interesting history of operating long-haul flights.

Well I think long-haul will be operated by Etihad under codeshare. So Abu Dhabi-Melbourne or Abu Dhabi-Sydney will carry JU as well. At least until European flights are sorted out. Regarding planes, Jat has an order on Airbus planes and probably Etihad will help that deal come to fruition. However both companies are lobbying, so Jat was supposed to lease two Airbuses from Adria for this season and it even paid the down payment but it seems like this deal will not be carried out and that instead Jat will lease Boeings. I think we will get a cleaner picture as soon as Etihad takes over.

Following Emirates' lead in launching its nonstop flight to Clark, located north of Manila (the first such long-haul service) from Dubai, Qatar Airways will follow suit, launching its own nonstop service from Doha, making it the second long-haul flight to Manila's second international airport. The airline will operate the Doha—Clark service daily, on board A330-200 aircraft, from 27 October 2013. Schedule:

QR930 DOH2100 – 1035+1CRK 332 D
QR931 CRK1205 – 1705DOH 332 D
