I don't know why Saudi Arabian is waiting so long to order the 380, it's the perfect aircraft for them especially during Haj.

Also EK has received they're 89th 777ER.

In other words, where would they be using the A380 during the rest of the year.

But you could also say the same about their 747s that are currently used for the Hajj flights, although half of them are actually operated by other airlines that do use them on other charters in periods outside of the hajj. That's a bit more difficult to do with the A380 since there are no charter airlines that already operate the plane.

The real reason why they haven't ordered the A380 is because they have already ordered the 777-300ER that have almost the same capacity as the 747-400s. So instead to go bigger they just ordered a similar sized plane that is also very fuel efficient especially in the high density variant that Saudi operates.

That is the same problem that Garuda Indonesia has. They wont order A380 or 747-8 just to use on the Hajj because they don't know where to send them yet during the rest of the year.

A380 for Hajj pilgrimage might be great. But the big question is, where do you want to use it for the remainder of the year?
And for full time A380 user (such as Emirates), they find it difficult to allocate their A380 for Hajj pilgrimage due to high demand.

Any lease companies buy A380? Could work for airlines not willing to buy them for themselves to rent for busy seasons.

ILFC placed an order in 2001, but cancelled it in 2011.

During the Paris Airshow last month on of the smaller leasing companies, Doric announced that they will be ordering up to 20 A380s. That order has not yet been firmed.

And any leasing company or airline in the wet lease business also has the same issue. If they lease it out during the Hajj or any other busy moments, they will also have to lease it out on other moments. It remains the same problem.

The new agreement will be signed on August 1 by Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Etihad's Hogan, the government source said on Friday.

Flydubai to Bangkok and beyond?

Mutterings abound that Flydubai may be beginning to expand to the Orient.

Rumors of a three day trip to Bangkok with a layover followed by flights to KL and Seoul and maybe HK and then back to DXB.

I would think that getting to Bangkok is fine now but the return trip in winter time must be at the very edge of performance (high headwinds). Maybe it could be done once we get the biz config set up?

On a more serious note it looks like Dubai World Central will be fast forwarded for completion/up and running with a full EK move by 2020.

It will no longer be a 160 million pax airport but a increased 200 million pax design.

Legs or not, to be quite honest and not intending any punt against our colleagues at FD, the actual situation at DXB would rather need the 737s and 320s be sent to Sahrjah or Makhtoum.

The whale already slows down the hourly frequency of dep/ldg with the increased separation, so the light twins, with another minute more, are even more anachronistic in the screwed up layout of DXB.

If it is inevitable that FD stays at DXB, every logic would point out to a Makhtoum ops but logic is the big absent in UAE aviation, then a switch to 757/787/330 would be more than welcome.

FZ may well get 787's in the future but I think the reality at the moment is its too big a step up from the 737-800.

As someone has already mentioned the best aircraft fit for FZ currently is a 757 so there is more chance of them ordering 737-900ER's (which they already have options for) and will get delivery dates a lot sooner than any 787.

I'm not clever enough to do the sums but the 737-900ER's are being used to replace 757-200's at Delta so I assume they have the legs

FZ's ideal aircraft is the 757. But they don't want second hand and unfortunately that little rocket is not being produced anymore. Their next best thing, according to FZ itself is the 787, but that is too expensive. Taking these 6+ hour flights into account then any manufacturer could be persueded to source some nice 2nd hand frames as part of the overall deal.

But if there is any truth to that rumor, then it has to be second hand proper long haul aircraft. I'd say get some 332's as part of the upcoming Airbus order () and it should be possible.

However it's a major step away from the current company setup. But the introduction of business class is I think a sign of things to come. The whole foundation of it's current operation will change, and so will the future route structure.

Seeing we are limited on some 4hr flights already then things need be change to make the 6hrs with headwinds possible. No more 1 tonne margin over the max landing weight, less seats and these new Split Scimitar Winglets once they are EASA certified at the end of this year.

Whichever way you look at it, it is good news

Has it crossed any body's mind that maybe, just maybe Emirates might pass on some if not all of they're 359 orders to FlyDubai????????????? Come the Dubai Air Show November all indicators point to Emirates launching the 77X program and we still really don't know what they're plans are going to be for the 359.

Yes one might think it's too big but as long as they keep packing in those load factors and the numbers are good any thing is possible. In Dubai thinking there's not much difference in the size of a 787 and 350 and the city is a magnet in air travel.

They are also the launch customers with Qatar Airways which means they could have them very soon instead of waiting for the 787s.

As far fetched as this might sound remember this is Dubai we're talking about where only the imagination and gravity are the limits.

Even Air Asia are going to use the 359 for LCC purposes.

Food for thought and let the dreaming begin.

Why would FZ source second hand 332s when they're parent company EK already own over 23 of them which are currently being phased out. This won't happen because they would of already gone to FZ.

FZ will go will new efficient airframes.

Good Point- There is also a lot of talk about FD Trans-Atlantic Flights from the UK, So all this would tie In.

They are still more connected to EK than many people realise.
