Looks as though SV to reintroduce JED-MAN-JED x 3 weekly from Jan 2014 using 777.

The European market is already quite saturated. While I'm pretty sure Emirates will add Oslo, Toulouse and Helsinki in the foreseeable future, their expansion rate there is going to slow down considerably. If anything they will add capacity on their existing European routes but not add new European destinations.

Instead they will focus on adding new destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, because that's where the growth is.

IMO they will add the following destinations in the next 5 years:

Cairns
Cebu
Chengdu
Denpasar
Hanoi
Kunming
Shenyang
Surabaya
Taipei
Yangon

I'm pretty sure Surabaya will be served by either Emirates, Qatar or Etihad very soon.
Afterall it is the largest city in Southeast Asia that doesn't have an intercontinental connection yet.

What about Cathay Pacific or EVA Air? Both of them serve direct flight to Surabaya from their respective home bases.

In my opinion, the market for Emirates (or any Middle Eastern rivals) for Surabaya destination might be slightly similar to Cathay Pacific:
- people who wants to visit famous places in Persian gulf (e.g Dubai)
- people who wants to travel to Europe or America (can be business people, tourists, or students)
- migrant workers who work in Middle East (mostly in Saudi Arabia)

Plus one type of market which is not served by Cathay Pacific:
- people who wants to travel to Mecca (mostly for Umrah pilgrimage)

If the date is correcnt, this picture was taken on 22nd october 2012 - 6 days before Emirates switched to full A380 London Heathrow operations.

It's older then 2012, the ANA 747 + some other old liveries give that away.

It was actually taken on July 06, 2007, before the 1st A380 was even delivered.

I even count 19 different airlines, although I counted 1 of the A340s in the background (next to the Qatar plane) that I can't recognize straight away as a separate airline.

Alitalia in talks with Etihad on commercial deal - report

Quote:
Reuters) - Italian airline Alitalia is in talks with Etihad Airways on a commercial deal that may even lead to the Abu Dhabi-based carrier taking a stake in the money-losing Italian company, daily il Sole 24 Ore reported on Saturday.

Neither Alitalia nor Etihad could immediately be reached for comment.

Citing unnamed sources, the paper said there had been several meetings in recent weeks between managers at both companies, including recently appointed Alitalia Chief Executive Gabriele del Torchio.

EK Double daily A380 DXB-MAN-DXB

world_rep;106115680

Emirates will upgrade the evening EK19/20 flights to an A380 from 21st-30th September. This is already confirmed on their website. This means on these dates we will have double daily A380 flights.

The EK19/20 will revert to a B777-300ER for Oct/Nov as the A380 fleet is overstretched in these months, but is expected to return to an A380 on 1st Dec, when a late night cargo flight will also start.

Good to see some confirmed growth from Emirates again, they have been quiet on the news front this year!
