Hungary set to join the Emirates network

DUBAI, U.A.E.,14th July 2014 Emirates, a global enabler of business and trade, will commence services to Hungary from October this year with a daily flight to the capital Budapest.

Starting 27th October, Emirates will offer 278 seats per day on the Dubai-Budapest route, operating a wide-body A330-200 aircraft in a two class configuration. With the launch of Emirates’ daily service, passengers in Hungary will have greater connectivity to key business and trading centres in the Far East and in the Middle East. Hungarian nationals now benefit from a visa-on-arrival in Dubai. With markets in Asia playing an increasing role in Hungary’s foreign economic growth targets, Emirates expects to see strong demand for this new service, especially to countries like Thailand, China, Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean Islands.

Emirates’ new Budapest route coincides with the opening of the airline’s Customer Contact Centre in the city this October. Together, the new Emirates office and Customer Contact Centre will support 300 local jobs, resulting in a multi-million dollar investment in the local economy.

Etihad Airways to connect San Francisco to New Delhi from Nov 18

Tuesday, July 15, 2014, 13:00 Hrs [IST]
By TBM Staff | Mumbai

Etihad Airways will launch a daily service to San Francisco from New Delhi to offer convenient connection to the US city via its Abu Dhabi hub on November 18, 2014, as per a release. The airline will operate a three cabin Boeing 777-300ER between San Francisco and New Delhi. The aircraft will be leased from Etihad Airways’ strategic partner Jet Airways and will be configured to carry 346 passengers, with eight in First Class, 30 in Business Class and 308 in Economy Class.

James Hogan, President and CEO, Etihad Airways, said, “Etihad Airways is renowned for its growing global flight network which provides an important link to Indian communities around the world, especially those living in the United States.” He added, “This new service will benefit business and leisure passengers flying from New Delhi to San Francisco as the flight schedule will offer the most convenient transfer times as well as Etihad Airways’ world-class service and product.”

San Francisco is the latest addition to Etihad Airways’ US network. The airline currently offers double-daily flights to New York and daily flights to Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, D.C. The San Francisco service will be followed a month later by the commencement of flights to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport from December 3, 2014.

Emirates, Etihad, Qatar make top ten airline list

Emirates, Etihad, Qatar make top ten airline list
The three major Gulf carriers have all be named in the top 10 Airlines of the Year 2014 list

Dubai: The three largest Gulf carriers, Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, have been named on the list of the world’s top ten carriers at the annual World Airline Awards.

Qatar Airways matched last year’s finish as the second best airline in the world. Emirates dropped from being 2013’s best airline to this year’s fourth best. Etihad dropped from seventh to ninth.

Cathay Pacific took this year’s top title after placing sixth in last year’s awards.

The World Airline Awards are run by aviation research firm Skytrax.

Middle Eastern and Asian carrier dominated the top ten with Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa the only carriers from Europe making to the list. No airline from the United States featured in the top ten.

Last month, Etihad announced it would no longer participate in Skytrax after stating it was not happy with the rating system. However, Skytrax has said that the airline could not leave as the awards are decided by passengers, and not the firm.

“An airline cannot be withdrawn from the World Airline Awards, since these results are directly decided by customers. Skytrax do not exercise control over which airlines are nominated in the survey ratings, and to subsequently try and conceal the results of a public vote would be unacceptable,” Skytrax has reportedly said in a statement.

Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways - all ranked in the top ten for best first class cabin, placing third, fifth and eighth, respectively. Etihad announced its new luxury cabin this year, which will feature on its Airbus A380s once delivered from Airbus, while Qatar Airways is focusing more on its business class offering.

Qatar Airways was ranked as having the best business class cabin, with Etihad placed seventh and Emirates ninth.

Jet Airways has had the permission to fly from Dehi to SFO. Etihad has never been able to get wide-bodied aircraft soon enough to start long haul flights though they have an open sky policy with the US. Since they are leasing the aircraft from Jet, they probably did not want to piss the Indian aviation officials (who dream about pissing people off even in their sleep) or are trying to bypass some of India's weird aviation policies....I guess the same aircraft flies between Delhi and Abu dhabi but with a different flight number!!

The fun part of that flight is that, once you get on board, you will arrive in San Francisco fresh and alert as it will arrive near the height of the morning commute:

EY183 AUH0215 – 0630SFO 77W D

The return flight, however, seems to be quite early that it could become one of the earliest long-haul flights to depart from the San Francisco Bay Area:

EY184 SFO0830 – 1240+1AUH 77W D

Not to mention that Jet Airways operated Delhi (or Mumbai) via Shanghai/Pu Dong to San Francisco (v.v.), which was sadly discontinued. However, given a huge demand for passengers from the Indian subcontinent (thanks to Silicon Valley), it seems that the flight will be timed to provide convenient transit times for travelers continuing to or from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, along with a host of other nations. And, the start date of the flight seems to be perfect to coincide with the start of the Holiday season in the US, particularly on the West Coast.

And, to make matters more interesting, its counterpart in Dubai, Emirates, will operate its SFO service on board an A380 from December, in time for Christmas.

It was said that this livery is just a special livery(for their first 2 a380 only) but apparently, it's not just a special livery.

Check the pics below out: The tail of their 3rd a380 has arrived at TLS recently with the same colors as the second one and same thing for their 1st 787 (3rd frame in the 2nd pic).

What I read somewhere was that they were going to change the livery for all their 787s and A380s (and maybe go for a total change of livery over time)!!
