40 evening courts to clear backlog
The state government has proposed to establish 40 evening courts soon to clear the cases pending before the judicial magistrate courts, according to C. Ve. Shanmugam, minister for commercial taxes, registration and law. “In tune with the chief minister’s objective to establish a court for each district, the government will set up 40 evening courts and holiday courts This will entail the government an additional expenditure of Rs 1.7 crore per annum,” Mr Shanmugam said on Thursday. Wrapping up the demand for grants for his departments, he said that judicial magistrate courts would be established at Lalgudy (Tiruchy district), Nanguneri (Tirunelveli district) and Ulundurpet (Villupuram district) and additional sessions court at Tirupathur (Vellore district) besides a district court at Hosur. Faulting the previous DMK regime for not effectively tackling the law college incident, he said when a similar incident threatened to loom over the Coimbatore college the chief minister tactfully handled the situation by instructing the principal to transfer the four students instead of suspending them. For the first time, the chief minister had constituted special courts to try the land grab cases. Mr Shanmugam claimed that the state information commission has complained that the department officials during the previous DMK rule failed to cooperate with the commission in furnishing particulars sought by RTI activists. For the loan, Orient Green Power had issued a corporate guarantee for the project to Axis Bank, on behalf of Beta. Besides, Gamma Green Power Pvt Ltd, another Orient Green Power subsidiary engaged in the business of setting up of wind mills and wind farms, is planning to purchase two WEGs at Gujarat, aggregating 4-MW assets. Towards refinance for assets of 3.98 Mw, it has a raised term loan from Bajaj Finance Ltd and Orient Green Power issued a corporate guarantee for Rs 23 crore in favour of Bajaj Finance. With this acquisition, total capacity of Gamma would increase to 62.02 Mw. Orient Green Power Company Ltd is promoted by Shriram EPC, a Shriram Group company, with investments from Bessemer Venture Partners of US and Olympus Capital Holdings, Singapore, for the creation and ownership of renewable energy assets. The company is one of the largest independent operators and developers; its portfolio includes biomass, biogas, wind energy and small hydroelectric projects at various stages of development. As of September 2011, the company had 300 Mw of aggregate installed capacity. This comprised 250 Mw of wind energy projects and 50 Mw of biomass projects. The company has set a target to become the country’s largest renewable energy producer and other attractive markets, reaching 1,000 Mw by 2013. http://www.business-standard.com/ind...andhra/473615/ |

Animal husbandry schemes to get Rs50 cr
![]() Animal husbandry minister T.K.M. Chinnaiyya announced a series of schemes for his department at an estimated Rs50 crore which includes Rs25 crore for developing infrastructure and veterinary facilities across the state. He informed the Assembly on Friday that work on establishing two veterinary colleges in Thanjavur and Tirunelveli districts were progressing and tenders would be floated soon. ![]() Reeling out statistic, the minister said, Tamil Nadu stands second in egg production in the country and contributes 18.27 per cent of the total production. In terms of meat and milk production, the state holds 5th and 8th position. With the state livestock population surging, the state would soon be the hub for livestock, he said. The minister also invited all his colleagues and legislators to attend the free livestock distribution scheme to observe the emotions and confidence the farmers develop when they receive the livestock. Fighting tears, they hail chief minister J. Jayalalithaa as maadu kudutha maharasi and the farmers who receive the free goats walk with the gait of pannaiyars (landlords). These livestock are now an integral part of their family and have enhanced their monthly income. The beneficiaries come back to us, to share that their cows and goats are breeding well. The livestock has marginally raised their livelihood and most of these beneficiaries are landless people, the minister said, noting that the goat kids born to the brood stock supplied to farmers has crossed the 12,000 mark in the state. Later in the day, dairy minister V. Moorthy informed the Assembly that steps were on to enhance milk production. A state-of-the-art centre to produce milk products would be established at Ambattur. The state-run Aavin is planning to come out with smart cards replacing the existing milk card system, he said. Source |

e-helpline on cards for tax assessees
Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax payers in this zone, which covers the rest of the State except Chennai, are likely to have an e-helpline facility soon.
V.S. Krishnan, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Customs, and Service Tax, Coimbatore Zone, told The Hindu on Monday that “we are thinking of creating an e-helpline. It is till in the conceptualisation stage.” The aim is to extend time-bound assistance in problems related to assessment, procedures and systems. Since the zone is spread across the State (covering Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, Tiruchi and Tirunelveli districts), those who need assistance will be able to contact the Chief Commissioner directly if the helpline facility is available. Depending on the response, it can be extended to the commissionerates. Mr. Krishnan said the zone had performed well in Central Excise and Service Tax collection in 2011-12 and realisation was almost near the targeted revenue. This year would be buoyant and the targets were likely to be substantially higher. With the tax net getting wider, “we are moving towards a Goods and Service Tax regime. Widening of the base permits lowering of the tax rates,” he said. Compliance had improved across the country during the last five years and the situation had improved in this zone too. The commissionerate would also focus on improving the skills of its officials here in niche areas, he added. Source |

Prepaid autorickshaw system may be introduced
: The police and officials attached to the Department of Transport organised a meeting with the autorickshaw drivers here on Monday to work out the modalities pertaining to introduction of prepaid autorickshaw system here as this method has drawn widespread reception from the public in other major cities. As per this plan, prepaid autorickshaws will be operated from the Tirunelveli Junction Bus-Stand and the Vaeinthaankulam New Bus-Stand in the first phase. Under this system, aspiring commuters should obtain a token from the computerised control rooms to be installed at these two points for hiring the prepaid autorickshaws, for which the passengers will have to pay the fixed fare. Since the prepaid autorickshaw system has become a success story in the metro cities like Chennai, the police and the traffic department officials have planned to introduce it in the twin towns of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai also. In a meeting organized at Palayamkottai on Monday, the Transport Department officials and the police asked the autorickshaw drivers, after good deal of discussion among themselves, to finalise the fares to various destinations. Once the fares are finalized for implementation, the next round of meeting will be conducted on May 25 on commencing the service on an early date. If it becomes success, then it will be extended to other areas. Regional Transport Officer T. Muthusamy, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dharmalingam (Armed Reserve Police) and S. Rajamannar (Palayamkottai) participated. REFERENCE |
