Washington, DC's *wonderful* Northwest neighborhoods (102 photos)

I was in Washington, DC this week for just under 58 hours. Fortunately I had the afternoon free on Wednesday to get out & see for myself what makes Northwest DC such a vibrant & pleasant place to live & play. While I was in DC, I actually stayed with a friend who lives just 2 blocks from Dupont Circle (on Massachusetts Avenue). The photo tour starts out in & around Dupont Circle, then proceeds up 18th St NW through Adams Morgan, then westward across the Calvert Street bridge into Woodley Park, then up Connecticut Avenue to Cleveland Park. From that point, I took the Metro up to Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase, MD before returning to Dupont Circle. From there, I headed east along P St NW to Logan Circle, then turned southwest down Rhode Island Ave to Scott Circle, and finally wrapped things up by heading northwest along Massachusetts Avenue back to my friend's apartment. I most definitely liked all of the areas I visited, but for me none of the neighborhoods quite measured up to Dupont Circle. It's basically just about anything & everything I could want in an urban neighborhood. Loved it, loved it, loved it. So anyway, here are my photos.

Great pictures!

I was actually in a lot of those places when I went to DC last October, literally I remember a lot of those buildings.

Amazing architecture, vibrant street activity, as well as urbanity.

Ah Northwest DC...my favorite place in the world during a sunny day. I basically grew up there at my grandparents' house in Tenleytown and Friendship Heights. Im pretty sure I can tell you everything about every picture in this thread haha.

I see you spent a lot of time on Wisconsin Avenue. My mom grew up in Friendship Heights not too far from the Metro Station. She was working at Booeymonger, a deli right above the Friendship Heights station (if you saw it) while they were blasting the tunnels.

After seeing this I might just go and take a walk around Connecticut Avenue with the GF tomorrow...its been a while.

Conn. ave and wisc ave! Crossing Western ave gets you right into Maryland.

Just a note for out-of-towners driving in DC: Don't drive if you're not familiar with the streets. Theres already enough congestion and other annoying problems that gridlocks the city!! Walk or take metro!

Beautiful photos! DC is a beautiful place....this might be the #1 BEST thread we have on the real 'DC'!

Usually I stumble upon DC tourist attractions in photos, as opposed to the great photos you posted here!
