JetBlue and TAM Airlines Partner on Flights to Brazil and Beyond

NEW YORK and SAO PAULO – JetBlue Airways and TAM Airlines, the largest airline in Brazil, today announced a new interline partnership to connect travellers to Brazil and beyond via New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Orlando International Airport.

TAM offers multiple daily departures from New York (JFK) to Brazil – to both Rio de Janeiro (Galeao) and Sao Paulo (Guarulhos) – as well as twice-daily service between Orlando and Sao Paulo.

JetBlue is the leading domestic airline at JFK, with 150 daily departures to dozens of major cities from its home at the award-winning Terminal 5. At JetBlue’s growing Orlando International Airport focus city, where TAM recently doubled its own service, the airline offers service to more than 20 destinations across the United States, Caribbean, and Latin America.

With this new agreement in place, customers will be able to purchase a single e-ticket itinerary, combining flights on both carriers’ networks to give them the ease of one-stop ticketing and baggage check-in.

TAM customers can connect onward to numerous JetBlue destinations including Boston; Chicago; Hartford, Conn.; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Newark, N.J.; San Francisco; and Washington, D.C. Similarly, JetBlue customers will enjoy new access to TAM destinations including Asuncion, Paraguay; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Montevideo, Uruguay; Santiago, Chile; plus 45 cities across Brazil.

“We’re excited to be partnering with TAM to bring more destinations within reach of our customers,” said Scott Resnick, JetBlue’s director of airline partnerships. “We look forward to welcoming TAM’s customers to the JetBlue experience and to introducing more Americans to the excitement and beauty of Brazil and other TAM destinations throughout South America.”

“Brazilians are travelling more frequently to other countries and this partnership is important to enhance our reach in the United States, one of the preferred destinations of our clients,” says Nelson Shinzato, TAM Airlines’ Planning and Alliances Vice President. “JetBlue clients will enjoy our Spirit to Serve, modern airplanes, and high quality services.”

This year, TAM Airlines was named the “Best Airline in South America” and also recognized for “Staff Service Excellence in South America” at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. The winners are decided from a survey conducted annually by the UK based specialist aviation research organization with passengers worldwide. Between July 2010 and May 2011, 18.8 million air travellers from over 100 different nationalities evaluated 200 airlines.

Customers traveling with JetBlue enjoy top-notch amenities including unlimited free snacks and drinks, personal seatback screens with live television and satellite radio, spacious leather seating, the most legroom in coach of any U.S. airline*, and award-winning service from JetBlue’s in-flight crewmembers.

American Airlines will launch a new daily flight to Brazil by June 2012: Miami-Manaos 7fxs on Boeing 738NG. Manaus, will become American's 8th destination out of Brazil, after the airline added Brasilia on November 9th 2010, and 3 cities on November 2nd 2008: Belo Horizonte and Salvador-Recife all from the airline's latin american gateway Miami.
But that's not all, American Airlines is also planning a service to Porto Alegre form MIA for this summer (December), and it's rumored that Curitiba will be the next citie for AA's network out of Miami.

Brazil's Trip Airlines to spend $903 mln on fleet

By Jeffrey T. Lewis

BRASILIA -(MarketWatch)- Brazil's Trip Linhas Aereas announced it plans to spend $903 million on new turboprop planes from European aircraft maker ATR, Valor newspaper reported, citing Trip President Jose Mario Caprioli.

The new planes will be used to increase operational efficiency and to help the company prepare for expansion, the newspaper said.

Trip will buy nine ATR 72-600s and lease another nine of the aircraft, which will make the company the second-biggest regional airline in the world, after AMR Corp. (AMR) unit American Eagle, Caprioli said, according to the newspaper.

Trip Linhas is controlled by the Caprioli and Aguia Branca groups. ATR is a joint venture between European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co. (EAD.FR) and Alenia Aeronautica, part of the Italian industrial group Finmeccanica SpA .

South Africa's Acsa consortium awarded $9.2bn Brazil airport contract
8th February 2012

Airports Company South Africa (Acsa), together with Brazilian joint venture partner Invepar, won a $9.2-billion concession to overhaul and operate the busiest and most valuable of three Brazilian airports, Guarulhos, in São Paulo.

The partnership would own 51% of the Guarulhos International Airport concession, with Brazilian State aerospace operator Infraero owing the remaining 49%. Acsa would provide airport management through a technical service agreement with the concession for twenty years.

Some of the immediate tasks include preparing detailed operational plans for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, the Pope’s visit for World Youth Day in 2013, the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, all to be held in Brazil.

“This is a great opportunity for Acsa, as we realise that in order to grow the business, Acsa has to look beyond South African borders, particularly focusing on emerging markets such as India, Brazil and Africa.

“We managed to secure an opportunity in India a few years ago, we now have Brazil and are pursuing similar ventures in Africa. Winning the bid in Brazil will enhance Acsa’s brand and better position it in the marketplace as a significant participant in global airport investment and management services,”

Brazil’s Triunfo Participações and France's Egis Airport Operation won the concession to expand Viracopos Airport, also near São Paulo, with a bid of $2.2-billion, while Brazil's Engevix and Argentina’s Corporación America won the concession for a new airport terminal in Brasília, the country’s capital, with a bid of $2.607-billion.

The South African Ministry of Transport also congratulated Acsa on its achievement.

"The report card on infrastructure released by the South African Institution of Civil Engineering last year stated that South Africa's best performing infrastructure was its aviation infrastructure, which was awarded the report's only 'A'.

"Last year, the OR Tambo International Airport was named the best airport in Africa, and was also in the top three most-improved airports worldwide, at the World Airport Awards for 2010/11, held in Denmark,” Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said in a statement.
