British people forced to leave there island home! by the UK Government.
![]() News report>>>>>>> http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...64379758632511 http://www.letthemreturn.com/ official website for support and what happened. Britain should allow Chagos people home to there native islands The British removed these's islanders from there home islands. Its time for the UK to give them there homeland back. TIME LINE>> Mid 1780s - French colonist from Mauritius establishes a coconut plantation on Diego Garcia. August 1964 - A joint US/UK military survey of the islands takes place. November 1965 - The British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) is formed. This includes Chagos. December 1965 - UN resolution 2066XX is passed by the General Assembly. It called on the UK ‘to take no action which would dismember the territory of Mauritius and to violate its integrity.’ Britain refused to implement this resolution. December 1966 - British and US Governments sign a secret military agreement giving Diego Garcia to the US for military purposes. Forced expulsion of the Chagos islanders begins. Full story here>> http://www.letthemreturn.com/ This is the story of a scandal - a tale of deceit and cover-up at the highest levels of international affairs. It is one that the UN tried to stop from happening but the governments involved ignored their message. The root of the problem lay with American interest in the Indian Ocean which grew in the 1960s as Britain's retreat from empire threatened to produce a power vacuum in waters adjacent to the Persian Gulf. The US decided that a military base was needed. US military surveyors considered Aldabra Island, another British possession nearer to Africa, but it was ruled out because of the presence of a rare species of turtle. The people of the Chagos archipelago, however, were not considered a problem. Between 1968 and 1973, the entire population of this small group of islands in the Indian ocean were systematically removed from their homes and exiled, by a government who deliberately ‘maintained the fiction’ to the rest of the world that they didn’t exist, and therefore had no rights. Recent court hearings have heard how senior officials in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the time of the expulsions conspired to conceal the operation, which involved the gassing of animals and the forcing of pregnant women into the hold of a merchant ship. Some miscarried after being dumped in the slums of Mauritius, where many islanders still remain. On 30th June 2008 the House of Lords heard the British Government’s appeal; coming after the Chagossians had won their right to return to their outer islands in May 2007. On 22nd October 2008 The Law Lords upheld the Government’s appeal by 3 votes to 2, effectively condemning the Chagossians to never having the right to return. This decision was taken mainly because of pressure exerted by the United States military administration, who wish the entire Chagos archipelago clear of any inhabitation for their own ‘peace of mind’. So is this the end of the road? On the contrary – the fight will go on and the next port of call is the European Court of Human Rights. The Chagossians will not yet lose hope - a great hope that they, after 40 years of hardship, poverty and degradation can return to their homeland if they wish and live the kind of life that we all take for granted – a life free to make their own decisions and choices, in peace and safety.

It's spelt "Britain".
Honestly, the standard of spelling and typing on this forum is atrocious. I lose count of the number of thread titles I have to edit.

Do you think if I swallowed a penny I would die?
There is one that wont seem to piss off. No matter where I kick it, or where I throw it, for some reason it still arrives on my floor to annoy me. Its really irritating me. Im just dreading if I do eat it and I do poo it out eventually, when I do turn round to look at my turd ... there it will be, staring straight back at me. EVIL PENNY!ANY IDEAS?

The Chagos Islands are pretty:
British Indian Ocean Territory The British Indian Ocean Territory consists of some 1000 coconut palm islands clustered around six coral atolls. Only one island, Diego Garcia, is occuppied by a British and American airbase. The native people were expelled from the islands in the 1960s and have fought a long and so far unsuccessful campaign to be allowed to return. Unlike other groups of tropical paradise islands in the Indian and Pacific oceans (eg Seychelles, Maldives, Fijian islands, Tahitian islands etc) these islands remain completely wild and untouched by man. There are no honeymoon resorts here, just perfect natural beauty: Chagos Islands: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Diego Garcia: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
