I understand. That's because you're from Birmingham. See, I don't see anything special in the Birmingham skyline

is that a question or a statement?

I think it is both. A skyline under construction.

Nice pictures of cardiff!

The problem with Birmingham (and to an extent Manchester as well) is that the skyline consists of mostly ugly commie blocks. Brussels, Berlin, Liverpool and Vienna are far ahead of Birmingham. I don큧 see how anyone could disagree. Milan and Essen also look denser and better. Valencia, The Hague and Manchester are Birmingham큦 closest rivals.

Frankfurt could also claim not only to have the best skyline but also to have the best 2nd tier skyline (in fact we do have two skylines, one in the city and one in Niederrad).

Here's Frankfurt Niederrad skyline:

Looks a bit like Croydon in London:

There are some fantastic skyscrapers planned for this area, but I think none of those plans have left the drawing table.

A great shot of Brussels from the Atomium, by e3000 on Flickr:

And one from Antwerp , which is more like 3rd tier, but it can certainly compete with Valencia or Manchester. A lot of towers going up at the moment as well..

I would vote Birmingham for density and Hague for beauty!

haha are you literally kidding? Manchester has several 100M+ buildings and a shitload of midrises, I can make out about three or four lonley stumpy buildings there.

As said many times before, a skyline is more than a collection of buildings...

Even so, there's not much difference in the statistics:

Manchester:
4 X +90m
16 X +60m

Antwerp:
2 X +90m
15 X +60m

Furthermore, aside from one tower, Manchester's skyline consists of ugly midrises, whereas Antwerp has some attractive new towers going up.

Manchester still beats us in height and density though, so you're right that it's still better for now. Hopefully, we will be joining this list in the next ten years or so...

The docklands area is where we have put all our hopes:
