There is a lot of people thinking that skyscrapers have nothing to do with our history and architecture. They consider building skyscrapers as an anachronistic means to look to the future, a bad attempt to imitate what happened in america one century ago.

Other people, especially young people, are really excited about these new developments, and they don't understand why other people complain about skyscrapers and not about all the ugly buildings built in the last 50 years. Since the late 50's, in fact, good and innovative architecture in italy has experienced a sort of paralysis (in my opinion). The issue of the height of skyscrapers and highrises is to me not the central one, we should always talk about good and bad architecture, and these highrises belong to the first group.

The height is the issue, right?

Because we know there are no medieval towers in Venice or Pisa or anywhere!!!

Italy must remain low-rise to support our misinformed view of Italian architectural history!

Italy is in the midst of a severe economic crisis.
There is no longer a real production sector in Milan! there is only one "advanced" service sector, so advanced that our economy is being lost amid the current global economic crisis.

Not the economy, but population increased of about 5 mio in last decade thanks to immigrants: only in Lombardy (Milan region) more than 1 mio increasing (about + 10% on total population)

The fashion industry is completely owned by French companies.
LVMH Moët Hennessy • Louis Vuitton S.A. (fendi, berluti etc.)the family holding company of Bernard Arnault
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LVMH And PPR Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (The Gucci Group, Sergio Rossi, Bottega Veneta etc.)
http://www.ppr.com/
The French fashion giants outsourced the production to China

Satrapo, you also pop-up here in this thread... good

for you, we'd better go away from Milan, so they do not build more skyscrapers and other things, since no avail, Milan is in the hands of the mafia and other country...

I really love the marble "suggestions". We as italians export marble all over the world (f.e. Le Grand Arche in Paris), i'm glad they're using it here too

But the dark-green marble is from Brazil. Only inside they'll use an italian marble.
