Would save several hours.
Yes, development of the subway or over-ground rails (cheaper to build) can make all the different in the air, movility and quality of life in Cairo.
Only the mentality needs to change - there are two options: an Egyptian-Tokyo or an Egyptian-LA...I don't see people in New Cairo taking the subway or getting one anytime soon (plus, the density is low....alas not profitable), the point is developing the city in a more compact way along future plans for future expansions of the subway.

A compact Cairo is the only solution I guess- basically because the average Cairene family having a yard LA-style is not feasible.

So much time is wasted in traffic jams in Cairo....bad for the economy and the psychological health

Yup except that the one in NYC isn't contactless, the one they will have in Cairo and already have in London is contactless. You simply touch the card over machine and you're done, heck you don't even need to touch the card! If the card is in your wallet you just need to touch the machine with the wallet and that's fine here is a little illustration ...

BTW just few months ago they introduced the system here in Manchester though no card, just kids with igo card and old people use it in buses contactlessly.

We have exactly same system in Holland for trams, buses, trains, trams and metros. It's called OV-Chipkaart in English: Public Transport Chip card. But the system is still 1,5/2 years after the introduction huuuge mess! Biggest problems are safety, privacy and reliability. The overall development costs of the chip card system are around €600.000.000,- Euro's! The biggest mistakes were made bij the Dutch government.

I really hope the Cairo metro card system will reliable and good though!

I don't want to sound stupid, but I think I posted an article that say it will have the latest security system. If I find it I'll post it again

Okay here you go,

http://www.itp.net/526790-cairo-metr...e-from-hacking

We basically went to the company that hacks and fakes the cards worldwide and told them to make us a more secure cards cleaver huh?

Also more news about the system,
http://www.rfidinregion.com/rfid-new...cketing-system

And these the actual machines that you will put your card over

Well.. The travel card in Holland has also a new latest "security system" but it's still a fail. But the card in Holland is made by a Dutch company and I really don't think the card that Cairo will use is the same. I think and hope it will be better than the Dutch ones. It's still technology and technology is never 100% reliable so we have to wait and see first how the Cairo card will perform.

Well basically it's like the company that's fake the cards on holland do they know the weakness of the chip and so they also know how to improve them. So that company is the one that's make us the chips so they should be top notch, right?

Great update ya mido.

I can see the smart card machines are in place but have start started introducing the cards themselves?

Also if anyone took a ride in Line 3 share your experience is the service any better?
