hkskyline's 2008 TOLEDO, SPAIN Photo Collection

My first day trip from Madrid was Toledo, a convenient 30 minute express train ride. While I was amazed how well-developed the HSR infrastructure has become, I wasn't too happy that I had to get a number and wait forever to buy a ticket through a manual counter. It seems the automatic machines could not be used for these tickets. A lot of fellow tourists appeared far more confused.

1. I didn't do too much planning when I landed in Madrid the day before. I was told by my friend I had to visit Toledo and Segovia, and I randomly picked Toledo first. Upon sighting a map of the town, I grabbed a photo to help with my bearings later.

2. Like other European cities, nice architecture awaits, and the photo-taking frenzy began.

7. Brilliant sunshine illuminated the skies. I also enjoyed clear days prior in Lisbon, and the great weather extended into Spain.

11. Hmm ... blue tiles are also popular here?

15. I don't usually eat much when I'm on a frenzy trip. A frenzy trip is one where I budget too much and there is not enough time. This means most of my trips are like that. With only 3 days in Spain, it was quite hopeless to cover Madrid, Toledo, and Segovia. So I could only look at the food to fill up.

19. Alcazar is still closed to the public, but it is so huge it cannot be missed from most vantage points in and around Toledo.

21. You can see very far in this beautiful weather.

24. Now let's immerse in the streets and alleys to take a closer look :

51. I'm still hungry.

52. Quite a lot of tourists were exploring Toledo like me, but most were on the main walkways and didn't venture much into the unknown alleys.

More Toledo in the next part - to be posted in this thread!

95. I had a number of beautiful blue days in my Spain and Portugal trip so far. The photos turn out so much better with the weather, and I got a good tan from so much outdoor activity!

99. Toledo appears to be a living historic city. Although there were a lot of tourists, I thought the side streets were still full of homes with residents!

102. Your grand entrance?

107. I love these types of frames.

108. These architectural details keep me on my toes all day!

120. I barely had lunch that day, and began to get hungry again looking at these goodies.

The whole set, along with Madrid and Segovia, are all on my website. More photos and commentary in the next part!

124. Immerse yourself in a serene vacation. Walk out to the balcony in the morning and watch the people stroll about their activities below.

125. Or sit in this balcony with the drapes open and read a book under the sunlight.

135. Is that a bush fire?

158. Outside the walls, it appears a modern city continues its day.

Great pics, you can discover new things in Toledo every time you go. Didn't you go inside the Cathedral or some other temple?

162. This corner of Spain is a fairly parched country.

164. My goal was to reach the bridge and hopefully get a good skyline shot.

170. Unfortunately, due to the elevation, that skyline shot would elude me.

175. A bit disappointed, I head back uphill to explore more side streets.

182. I suspect this walking tour wasn't in the guidebook. Tourists disappeared and I had the whole street to myself. Sure, the buildings weren't the prettiest, but I thought still worth exploring.

190. The more modern part of Toledo awaits outside the city walls.

202. I was quite sure I ventured into some of the buildings during my stay. Here they are. This was a surprise location, as none of my guidebooks prepared me for what was in store.

217. The view from the church was absolutely stunning!

219. Unfortunately, the main show had some renovations work going on.

244. Let's explore the streets a bit more!

248. You'll remain slim if these steps are part of your daily commute.

251. Are dryers common in Spain? It probably is OK to sun-dry everything in the balcony.

256. It was a late lunch ... and it was a mix of healthy and unhealthy foods.
