Piazza Maggiore, Bologna, Italy...one of the most enchanting italian cities usually underrated and neglected by tourists...they don't know what they're missing!

Federation Square in Melbourne is probably the best "new square". It was created by covering train lines heading into Flinders Street Station (the most important station for the city's rail network). It was constructed 100 years after the colonies of Australia came together to form a nation (the federation), which Melbourne was the capital of until Canberra was built.

I think most most swedish city squares look quite insipid compared to italian piazzas. German city squares also lack charm.
