The Russian "Peacekeeper" will reconstruct a railway line between Abkhazia and Russia. And they will do this against international laws.

“New train is maximally comfortable for the passengers. It’s important, that ticket price is reasonable for the population. It’s also significant, that this train will take 50 minutes from Gardabani to the centre of Tbilisi and will pass all the stations, that are needed to the population of Gardabani.” – remarked Governor of Kvemo Kartli David Kirkitadze.
For the current year “Georgian Railway” LLC will finish investment program of the modernization of trains.

We remind you that construction of the railway in Bakuriani was begun in 1898 and completed in January, 1902. Because of the environmental conditions there was driven a narrow rail track. In the second half of the twentieth century this railway became a favorite transport for the holiday-makers. Tsaghveri and Tsemi links railway bridge which was designed by French engineer Alexander Gustave Eiffel. More than century "kukushka" moves on narrow rail road without difficulties, through the most beautiful gorge to Borjomi – Bakuriani direction.

For the realization of the project European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will finance in the amount of EUR 100 million and in May of 2010 will be signed agreement with European Investment Bank (EIB) about financing of additional EUR 100 million.
Construction of the new Railway line is preliminary estimated to take about 3 years according to the feasibility study. Construction will be begun in May of 2010.
In case if private property is touched, population will get compensation. Negotiations with population and payment of compensation will begin in 2010 from June till August.

Just looks like upgraded ER2T. I suggest to stay off politics because unfortunately most of georgian railways look more similar to left one from Abhazia not right repaired one...

Electric locomotive building plant, on maintaining the base, will have an opportunity to receive foreign orders, - announced Director General of “Georgian Railway” LLC Irakli Ezugbaia.
JSC “Elmavalmshenebeli” has won the tender which was announced by “Georgian Railway” LLC. According the contract, at the first stage 2 electric locomotives will be repaired, and repair of other electric locomotives will occur stage by stage, in the current year.

An initial public offering, known as an IPO, is on the cards for Georgia’s national railway. Georgian Railway has discussed selling loan securities to be traded on the London Stock Exchange with the Georgian government. The securities would be offered in foreign currency.
Giorgi Gagnidze, financial director of Georgian Railway, told GBW that no final decision has been made on offering bonds on the stock exchange. Any such move would require approval from the government.
Gagnidze says Georgian Railway plans to carry out the IPO operation to draw required financial resources for implementing the railway network rehabilitation project.
“We have made no ultimate decision on concrete sources yet. Nevertheless, we are discussing several sources - bank resources, international finance institutions and placing bonds at LSE.” Gagnidze said.
Georgian Railway will develop the rehabilitation project on the ground of feasibility studies, which are being prepared by Siestra, a French company. The document development will end in late June.
Georgian Railway plans to issue securities worth 550 million USD, Gagnidze said.
Georgian Railway ended the first quarter of 2010 in profits of 14.3 million GEL, which helped make up for a reported loss of 1.4 million GEL during the same period last year.
KPMG, the international auditing company, has provided comments on the railway’s performance to date. But railway officials say the KPMG report isn’t complete and drafts were not for public release.
Georgian Railway has selected KPMG company on the ground of bids among four international audit firms, though KPMG had completed the railway’s audit last year as well.

Daughter Company of SNCF “Systra” won the tender of railway modernization announced by the Georgian Railways. The delegation of Georgian Railways visited France last week to discuss all questions concerning the project.
It is worthy of being mentioned that as a result of modernization French Railways could manage reduction of time and distance of the railway line during 10 years. From the point of view of relief complexities rehabilitation works which took place in the Alpine zone of France are close to the Georgian reality. Probably, this experience will become an initial point for the rehabilitation of a problematic piece of Rikoti gorge.
“Railways in all countries have almost identical problems. At this stage, Georgian railway faces to the same problems which we have overcome several years ago. Therefore, I think, that our experience will be positively represented on rehabilitation of Georgian trunk-railway”, - declared Director of Infrastructure of SNCF Pierre Izardi.
For the Georgian side French project is comprehensible for minimal expenses it is possible to reach the maximal result.
“French side does not try to reach results only with implementation of expensive technologies. They try to receive results within the limits of the optimum decision of updating of existing Infrastructure. Rehabilitation of Georgian Railways has several goals: to provide the maximal safety, growth of traffic capacity and increase of speed, as a result arrival from Tbilisi to Batumi in three hours will be possible”, - declared Director of Infrastructure of “Georgian Railway” LLC Giorgi Gurgenidze.
Giorgi Gurgenidze has also noted, that within the limits of the project, with the help of the French side best engineering, technically, economically and financial proved decisions have been accepted. As a result of realization of the given project, all those factors are improved, which will promote train movement more comfortable.
Engineers of the French company “Systra” will represent their own concept to the Georgian side in the end of April. Details are already coordinated and now there remains only realization of the plans.

The mill made contracts with various small enterprises, though the biggest customer is Georgian railway, which provides it with high-quality production”, - declared governor of Santskhe-Javakheti region Lasha Chkadua.
One of the biggest customers of the sleeper mill is “Georgian Railway” LLC. Only in the current year sleeper mill made 84 thousand sleepers of high-quantity at the price of 5 million GEL.
For purchasing of sleepers Georgian railway announced tender for several times, however none company could give production of such quality which was necessary for the railway.
“Sleeper mill of Akhaltsikhe is the very enterprise which has satisfied all our requirements and has given ecologically clean sleepers of high quality. The important fact is that, encouragement and development of the Georgian industry is the priority for Georgian railway. Such relationships confirm it, “– remarked Deputy Director of branch “Infrastructure” Zaza Jikia.
Sleeper mill of Akhaltsikhe is one of the greatest enterprises in Samtskhe-Javakheti region. 130 persons are employees at the mill and their average salary is from 600 up to 800 GEL.

“Georgian Railway” LLC is implementing Tbilisi Railway Bypass project for developing a new railway route bypassing the central area of the city of Tbilisi.

A total of approximately 85.0 ha (out of which 70.0 ha would be designated for urban development) of land should become free for new development. Tbilisi Central Station abandoned and stations Didube and Navtlughi will be rehabilitated.

The project is in direct support of the Tbilisi Municipal Government’s City Development Plan. GR has applied for a loan in the amount of up to EUR 200 million for a project.

The Project is to be implemented in 2010-2013.

The winner construction company will be announced in April 2010.

In April, the second € 100 million loan agreement will be signed with European Investment Bank (EIB).

Today, on March 22 in the Tbilisi Event Hall was held a presentation of Tbilisi Railway Bypass Project.
Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava, Director General of “Georgian Railway” LLC Irakli Ezugbaia and representatives of diplomatic corps attended the presentation.
Within the bound of new rail project is planned unloading of magistral and modern infrastructure territory and usage as city transport corridor. As a result, central part of the city will be distinctly liberated from the transport movement and there will appear new central zone with many-storied buildings, off-center decisions and with the inculcation possibilities of new technologies. Georgian and Foreign architects will get great chance of the creative progress.
It’s very important that free territory of approximately 100 ha will give us the opportunity to build social-chief seat of commerce of a regional scale. Long distance magistral will follow along the full length of the city center, which will connect David Aghmashenebeli avenue with the Kakheti highway.
Instead of the Central station – on the territory of “Didube” and “Navtlughi” subways will be developed two buffer traffic centers. To the both directions of the main axles of the city will be made modern architecture complexes, and between them on the existing territory will be formed polyfunctional, social-business space. The given space by the architecture-planned method practically promotes the joining of the traditional and new central spaces. Thus, the regions located in the north-east part of Tbilisi (Elia, Chughureti, Arsenali, Kukia,Nadzaladevi) will be directry connected with the city center.
“ Tbilisi has real possibilities and ambitions to became the regional city. This project gives us such chance. Work is necessary to reach this goal, to increase functions of the city and all it promotes well-being of each family. From this project begins new perspective for development of capital,” – declared Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava.
According to Director General of “Georgian Railway” LLC Irakli Ezugbaia, mentioned project serves for replacement of transit movement form the city center. “All transit trains, passenger or freight will bypass the city center – to the east direction will serve Navtlughi station and to the west direction - Didube station. Consequently, both of the station will be reconstructed.” – remarked Mr. Ezugbaia.
The Bypass Railway Project implementation will be completed in 3 years.

New Railway station in Kutaissi

In several years it will be possible to arrive from Tbilisi to Batumi in three hours. By the order of railway, running gear of three new passenger trains, braking equipments and systems of electric control were made in electric wagon repair mill of Georgia. Georgia is the first country among the Post-Soviet countries, which began changing of old Soviet techniques into the new ones and made the product in its own country.

Movement will grow ten times on our railway, taking into consideration that, from Azerbaijan and Armenia there will be a great movement. Orders must be done at our place. Rating agency “Fitchratings” published "Georgian Railway LLC"-s credit rating (B+/stable). This is the first time in the history of Georgian Railway.

The company rating is aligned with the sovereign rating of Georgia (some times ago Georgia was conferred by B+).

According to Financial Director of “Georgian Railway” LLC George Gagnidze, for today, “Georgian Railway” LLC is the only nonbanking company in Georgia which has a credit rating.

“High credit rating conferred by “Fitchrating” to Georgian Railway is based on thorough study and analysis of the company's current position, future development plans, its management and many other factors” – declared George Gagnidze on press conference today. According to his words, the different restructuring programs undertaken resulted in increased operational results and reliability.

The achievement would not take place if the operational success of the company could not be reliably presented in financial statements. The company fixed the problems in accounting and since FY 2008 its financial statements are prepared in accordance with IFRS, that is confirmed by auditors” – remarked George Gagnidze.

Freight transportation of “Georgian Railway” LLC is profitable, that gives us possibility to be the social partners of State and invest such projects as buying of passenger trains and construction of stations, so that expenses were not reflected on the price.

Civil.Ge -- Georgian state-owned railway company will issue eurobonds worth of USD 250 million, Georgian PM’s spokesman, Nikoloz Mchedlishvili, said.

He told Rustavi 2 TV’s business news program on Tuesday that PM Nika Gilauri will be visiting London on July 7-8 to lead a road-show for Georgian Railway’s planned eurobonds, organized by JP Morgan.

PM’s spokesman said exact terms have yet to be defined, but it would most likely be from five to seven-year eurobonds.

According to the same report raised funds will be used for Tbilisi by-pass railway project. EBRD provides EUR 100 million loan to co-finance a new double track railway route 10 km north of Tbilisi , which will divert rail traffic around the center of Tbilisi . This section of railway is part of main route for freight on the east-west transport corridor in Georgia.
